"Corey, the owner of Lee’s Plumbing, saw my request - on a Friday night - on Angie’s List, and he texted me! Asked me to call him. He said he could check out our water heater, which was very old and leaking, and came by the next morning. Corey was SO nice and helpful and communicative! He advised us that a 50 gallon tank was plenty for our household of 4 (we had a 75 gal) and that he could install it early the next week. Corey came by on Saturday morning, gave us a written quote for our home warranty company, and we settled on an install on Monday. Corey showed up Monday, right on time with a new water heater and a smile on his face! He brought a helper to get out our old 70-gallon tank up the stairs. In no time at all, the new heater was installed and the old, leaking tank was hauled away. Corey completely cleaned up the wet basement and solved our problem in no time! We’re calling Lee’s Plumbing for any future plumbing needs! Pic of new tank in basement!"

"t. The night before I flew to Arizona to graduate from doctoral school, I had 4 inches of water in my basement. One guy came out at 11: 00 p.m. and tried and tried for about 45 minutes to an hour to clear the pipe, but was not getting anywhere, so I told him to just come back in the morning.I left them an entrance into the house to work on it the next day and left for Arizona. They found that the city pipe to the main sewer collapsed. They called me (I was in O"Hare airport) and let me know that they faxed the city to tell the city to get out and check the pipe.  I called the city to get them to come out immediately (the city said they have 48 hours from the notification). The plumbers also called the city back because it was going to rain hard and I would have 8 inches of water in my basement. So, finally the city attorney called me and I told her that they had to get out there pronto or I would lose my furnace and hot water heater if any more water came in the basement. The attorney got the city crew out the next day. The plumbers checked on it through the whole ordeal and then the owner called me to let me know that the water was out of the basement and my basement was dry. I did the graduation walk with a smile instead of a worry that my basement would be completely flooded.
Another time, my shutoff valves burst and it was raining in my basement (yea really). They came out right away and took care of that before my basement was completely wet. They were kind when they told me that my main shut off valves had to be replaced soon as they too were about to break. Because my house is old, I appreciated them telling me about things that are about to happen before I wake up to yet another plumbing fiasco. (They told me the valves would probably be okay if I did not turn them, but not to wait too long as they were the main valves and then it would have to be shut off at the street.)
They go above and beyond what I would expect any service to do to resolve a plumbing problem I have read the other reviews. I really don't care what they use to light up whatever they have to see with, even if they ask me for my flashlight. I just want the problem fixed so it is really fixed. Everything they have fixed has not been a problem again at all. (Kitchen faucet, 2 sets of shut off valves, bathroom faucet, outside clean out, backup valve, sump pump. All these things have not been a problem at all. They are really kind when I call to ask basic questions.

"We are pleased with our bath remodel that included a new tub, tub surround and wainscot walls. There was one small problem with the walls due to the ceiling and walls not being plumb however they did go above and beyond by doing more than was was agreed upon by making plumbing improvements, installing a new lighted medicine cabinet and repairing a light fixture. They were very courteous and the installer even made a suggestion for a change that we agreed would be better."

"I would just like to say that I had a wonderful experience working with Everdry. The team leader was very professional and did the work in a timely and efficient manner. Workers were polite and knew their jobs very well. They all worked well together and made the job move smoothly. We have had no water problems since the work was done. One problem with the sump pump and they came out and replaced it for us. So keep on the warranty cost every year. KB of Toledo"

"I can't say enough about the service and care I received from everyone I worked with at FSM. From the initial contact with company to the end of the job everything went better than I expected. My sales representative, Jeff Weaver, went the extra length to explain everything in detail, promptly returned my multiple phone calls. One question I had regarded my sprinkler system, and he drove out to the house to take a second look at how it might be impacted by the repair, and he then called my Sprinkler company to discuss! FSM did all of the required leg work before the job began including contacting utilities and obtaining required city permits. Alex and his crew who installed the piers were professional, knowledgeable, careful around my property, and Alex explained each step of the process along the way. The end result was that this huge job I was fearing was not so bad after all! The wide stair step crack on the exterior of my house was almost totally closed up after the work. When the job was done, they power washed all impacted areas and left my property in great condition. I highly recommend FSM. All of my work came with a lifetime, transferable warranty."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can turn your water back on after you hire an emergency plumber and this professional completes the repairs. Your plumber probably will turn on the water for you, just to test the repairs and look for any other problems. Otherwise, if the plumber doesn’t turn it back on, it’s safe to do it yourself. Open the valve or knob slowly to prevent an unwanted rush of air from getting into your pipes.

Only portable washers and dryers function without a full hookup, though in most cases, you will need the proper plumbing, electrical, and ventilation installation. However, many homes already have a washer and dryer hookup installed, in which case, all you need to do is attach your new appliances to the existing hookup. If you're not sure whether you have a functioning hookup, you can call a plumber to come and assess your setup for you.

Pipefitting is a more specialized profession, and pipefitters work with complex systems and low- and high-pressure pipes, so it can be considered harder than plumbing. Though each profession comes with its challenges, the nature of pipefitting requires working with heavier materials in fast-paced and dangerous environments, which can be more challenging than working on residential and commercial plumbing systems.

Hiring an emergency plumber is expensive because of the urgency and inconvenience, but there are a few things you can do to help keep costs down:

  • Minimize water damage by shutting off your water main

  • Clean up pooling water immediately to reduce damage and mold growth

  • Avoid using fixtures if you have a clog or septic system backup

  • Verify that your plumber is licensed before hiring

  • Call a few plumbers for estimates if you can afford a short delay in getting service

PVC pipes are more affordable and applicable in most parts of your home’s plumbing system than copper pipes. They also require less maintenance. The only major restriction with PVC pipes is their low heat tolerance. Therefore, they’re not your best option for supplying hot water from the water heater throughout your home. PVC pipes are also larger in diameter, so they may not fit into certain spaces in your home.
