We were very pleased. The two guys that came out for the estimate arrived on time. They insisted on taking off their boots  to keep

the carpet clean. (most contractors slop in and out all day long making a mess ). They understood everything I wanted done and

emailed me an estimate. After deciding on what part of the bid we wanted done they set up an appt. within a week. Andy and

Ryan came out that morning( on time ) and got to work. They measured many times and asked for my approval BEFORE drilling 6 huge

holes into the ceiling ! There were some joist/beam issues and we worked around them. They let me watch and ask as many

questions that I wanted. After a lunch break they brought in another guy and worked all afternoon. I changed my mine on two

fixtures. They ordered them and will come out again as soon as they come in. They took their shoes off and on all day long. They

put down a tarp over the entire living room before the sawing started. In the end they vacuumed their way out the door. It was

very interesting to see what it actually takes to install lights, wires, cans, and switches in existing  walls.   We would definitely use

these guys again. Actually we will be having them install LED ceiling lights in the family room and kitchen in the Summer and Fall.

Electrical work is not cheap so we will have to spread out the work.

"We initially thought that there was a leak in the line for which a quote was provided. Once the line was uncovered to repair the leak it was discovered that the entire line (lead pipe which had been installed when the house was built in 1967) was corroded and would probably continue to spring leaks even after the first was repaired. The contractor recommended that the entire line be replaced although he was more than willing to repair only the leak for the initial estimate of $195. I agreed with his recommendation.
The repair was expected to take several days so the contractor ran a temporary supply line to the house so that we would not be without water.
We were totally satisfied with the work that was completed and that the employees were professional and courteous.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

"John called me back within 15 minutes.  He was very helpful and said he could do it but thought it might be better for me to contact someone a little closer.  I think his schedule was pretty full although he didn't say that.  He recommended 2 companies in my area and I ended up hiring one of them to do the work.  I was very pleased with them and they were prompt just like John at Lightning Rod Systems.  I appreciate that he was thinking about what was best for me."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

LED lights are certainly more energy-efficient, using 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs—this can help you save on your utility bills during what is an already expensive holiday season. In addition, LED lights last much longer than incandescent bulbs, about 25% longer. That said, they are also a bit more expensive than incandescent Christmas lights, and emit a bluish hue which some people don't like, compared to the golden glow of an incandescent bulb.

When hanging a chandelier, the distance from the ceiling depends on the room and height. For standard 8-9 foot ceilings, chandeliers in living areas or bedrooms should hang 7 feet from the floor. In dining rooms, the chandelier should be placed 30-34 inches above the table.

For higher or vaulted ceilings, adjust accordingly, ensuring the chandelier remains balanced and visually appealing. Aim for chandeliers in entryways to be 7 feet from the floor or adjust for high ceilings to make a grand statement. Always consider the room's function and the desired lighting effect to achieve the perfect placement.

Installing recessed lights requires you to cut holes in the ceiling, create an electrical wiring connection, install the fixture, and connect it to your service panel. It should only be done by those with electrical skills, due to the safety concerns it presents.

If you feel uneasy about taking it on yourself, it’s recommended to contact a local technician to complete the installation for you.

Some outdoor lighting fixtures are easy to install, like solar pathway lights that don’t need connecting to your electrical system. However, other types of outdoor lighting can be challenging to install, especially if it’s part of a larger electrical system. It’s best to work with a trained electrician for high-voltage outdoor lighting. You might also want to work with a landscaper for installing lighting in high or hard-to-reach areas.

DIY is possible for basic setups. Professional installation ensures proper wiring and energy efficiency.
