"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Working with Tareck Shaheen and his company to remodel our bathrooms was the best decision my husband and I ever made! To begin with we interviewed two other construction companies and all three businesses quoted similar estimated prices for the projects. Mr Shaheen impressed us with his kind personality, his curiosity about what we were looking for and his preparation for our first meeting. He looked at our bathrooms, listened to our desires and sat down with us showing us some of his past jobs. He made recommendations about supplies that could be used, how they looked in a bathroom and asked for our input. He allowed us to pick out all our supplies and recommended businesses to select them from. Throughout our first interview Terack made us feel comfortable, valued and confident with his abilities. The craftsmen, Bill and John, were excellent! They were so friendly, kind , professional and diligent. They always informed us the night before they left when they would come the next day and they were punctual. My husband and I were so impressed with the quality of their work and their dedication to doing each step perfectly. Often they would come and show us a project they just completed and asked for our opinion. I just can't say enough praises for these two gentlemen for their quality of work and dedication to their job! Mr Shaheen came to our home almost daily to oversee the work being done and sitting down with us to explain what the next step was going to be. As always, Mr Shaheen asked for our opinions and recommendations all the time. Throughout the work my husband and I were confident the final renovation was going to be gorgeous and substantial. My husband and I cannot say enough praises for the work that was done for us. It has been close to a month since the project was completed and everything is in perfect working order. If we need another renovation in our house we will call Northwest Construction Group to do it knowing that they will get the job done with pride and dedication. Thank you so much Tareck Shaheen, Bill and John!"

"I had a fantastic experience working with this drafting firm. From the very first phone call, Kirsten?our drafting consultant? was clear, professional, and incredibly helpful. She explained the entire process in detail and made sure all of my questions were answered up front, which gave me immediate confidence in the team. This firm partnered with engineers and architects to get the best quote for me on a stamp for my plans after they did an exceptional job on drawing the prints that met all the requirements for permitting. Their coordination and attention to detail made the process very simple on my end. If you are looking for a highly capable drafting firm that knows how to get things done right, I highly recommend them!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

Their expertise in identifying potential problems early and implementing durable solutions safeguards your home’s integrity.

Yes, an LVL beam is more affordable than the cost of a steel I-beam, totaling between $50 and $200 per linear foot as opposed to the $100 to $400 per linear foot you’d pay for a steel I-beam. Not only is the wood material more affordable than steel, but it’s also more similar to traditional wooden beams and doesn’t require as much retrofitting to connect joists.
