"Ed and his team were excellent. They installed new siding on two gables and trim around windows, the roof line, and garage of our ranch. My husband and I love the look. The price was right compared to other estimates. They offer a variety of materials including vinyl, wood, and James Hardie siding. I forgot to include an item when getting the original estimate and they came out the next day and installed the trim right away. Would definitely use again!"

"I purchased a $99 "deal" that was supposed to cover a roof inspection and minor repairs.  Atlas completed the work within a month, which was reasonable considering the weather at that time.  After the initial inspection I received a quote for some major repairs.  To the best of my knowledge, no minor repairs were performed as a part of the "deal".  The $99 seemed to cover only the inspection.  We negotiated what work would be done and Atlas agreed to deduct the $99 from their quote.  The total cost ended up being $250.  Clancy was very nice and professional, and I'm satisfied with the work that was done.  However, at the time I was a little irritated and felt like this "deal" was misinterpreted or misrepresented.  Normally I would scratch Atlas off of my list because of the irritation factor, but they did do good work and were very professional.  I would consider getting quotes from them for future roofing work.

Siding questions, answered by experts

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

You may only need to repaint fiber cement siding every decade or so, but you should clean it every six to 12 months, depending on your local climate. First, wash with a garden hose or similar low-pressure device (not a high-pressure washer, which can damage the material) to remove dirt and any large debris. Then, gently wipe down the surface with a soft brush or cloth in a side-to-side motion, following the grain of the fiber cement.

Wood siding requires that air can circulate behind it and that water can drain away if necessary. Your home needs a water-restrictive barrier underneath furring strips to achieve the air and water gap.

Vinyl is the most common shingle siding due to its rigid PVC design, longevity, affordability, and ease of installation. The next most popular types of shingle siding are fiber cement, which is in the mid-range for prices, and cedar shake, which is the most expensive. Consider the upfront cost, ongoing maintenance costs, and durability in your specific climate before deciding.

The best type of paint for vinyl siding is a high-quality acrylic latex paint, often labeled as '100% acrylic.' This type of paint is lightweight and adheres well to the vinyl surface, which reduces the likelihood of it peeling or flaking. For best results, apply two coats and avoid using thick paint. The color choice is also important; select a light color to prevent the paint from absorbing excess heat, which helps extend the durability of your paint job.
