"I had scheduled an appointment to change the locks on our new house. The day of when the locksmith reached out and said it would probably be 2 hours later I was frustrated. I reached out to the owner that I had made the appointment with and he came himself, at the original appointment time. I was satisfied with the service."

"He really knew his stuff! There was a lot to do because bad work had to be removed before the good stuff could be installed. But, he put a new deadbolt on that works like a dream. I had some other people there preparing for some other work to be done, so I lost track of time, but I think he spent way over two (2) hours making sure the lock had a smooth opening and that I didn't have to use a Karate kick to get it to work. I will call him again for any other locksmith work I need. He's the best!"

"ADT is the best company to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I booked Mr. and Mrs. Locksmith to cut and program keys for my car. However, since I found them through Angi, I had high hopes that they would provide satisfactory service. I'm thrilled to report that they not only met my expectations, but exceeded them in every way possible. First off, they arrived at my home promptly, which immediately put me at ease. As a first-time Angi user, I was slightly apprehensive, but they quickly dispelled any doubts with their professionalism and friendly demeanor. They took the time to explain their process, answered all of my questions, and completed the job quickly and efficiently. Moreover, I was pleasantly surprised by their pricing, which was extremely reasonable considering the level of service I received. I had researched other locksmiths beforehand, and their quotes were all higher than what Mr. and Mrs. Locksmith charged me, with some even hinting at additional fees if any 'issues' arose. But with this vendor, the price they quoted was the price I paid. The quality of service that I experienced today was exceptional and will set a new standard for any future service providers I encounter. I must commend Angi for recommending such an outstanding business. I now trust Angi implicitly and will turn to them as my first port of call for any future service needs."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.

If your key breaks in a lock, first remain calm and avoid forcing the broken piece further in. You may be able to remove it yourself if a portion of the key is still protruding from the lock. To aid removal, lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray. Then, try using tools like pliers, tweezers, a bobby pin, or even a jigsaw blade to gently grasp and pull the broken piece out. If these methods don't work, you can't reach the key, or you're concerned about damaging the lock, it's best to call a professional locksmith for assistance.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

The good news is that, yes, you can change locks yourself. Many people find it’s an easy DIY project that requires few tools and not much expense (depending on which lock you’re installing). If you have trouble with any part of an installation, you can always call a locksmith to help finish installing them.

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.
