"Victors came out to do an inspection on my 16 old roof and found lots of issues I wasn't aware of. The salesman showed me photos AND videos of the issues, which made me feel at ease knowing they weren't just trying to get my money. In under 1 week, the crew was there replacing my roof and I couldn't be happier with it! Everyone I came in contact was very professional, helpful and nice, from beginning to end. Though this was a little more than I anticipated spending on a new roof, I feel like it was totally worth it, knowing that I got good quality materials and workmanship, not to mention the warranty! "While removing the old roof, the aluminum coverings on our mansard roof dormers were damaged. The roofing crew attempted to repair the damage but the result was not satisfactory. As compensation they deducted a small amount from the total bill."

Roof vents are an essential part of a roof, as they promote energy efficiency by keeping warm, humid air at bay. The roofing material, especially asphalt shingles, will not last as long as it should (about half of its manufacture life) if the attic is not ventilated. Also, going without ventilation means having a warm attic that demands more from your air conditioning system (and your wallet, once the bills come). Ridge vents and roof vents also prevent a host of other icky moisture-related problems like rot, mold, and mildew.

A standard roof can hold a live load of about 20 pounds per square foot. However, gable roofs often have steeper-than-average slopes, so calculating their weight capacity can be challenging. If the slope of your gable roof is greater than 4:12, the live load needs to be decreased to allow for a larger dead load. Ask your roofer exactly how much weight your roof can support.

Most roof leaks occur where shingles meet or where there are sealants or seams in the materials. This is common around skylights and at any point there is a break in the roof such as corners and edges. Roofing materials are incredibly strong and resistant when overlapping, but any change in that can cause gaps where water can enter.

Technically speaking, yes, verbal agreements and “handshake deals” can be legally binding contracts that will hold up in court, but the suing party will need to be able to prove that the parties entered into the contract. Even though verbal and handshake deals can be binding, it’s risky to rely on these types of agreements for anything, including roofing projects. Always aim to get your contract in writing, and make sure it includes all terms and that you don’t agree to additional terms that don’t appear in the contract.

While you can technically install TPO roofing over an existing roof, it isn't always wise to do so. The more layers of material you add to your roof, the more weight it must support. You may also develop moisture issues by covering your existing roof with TPO. Your local building codes and regulations may actually require you to remove the existing roof before adding TPO, so check with your local municipality.
