"Did exactly what we asked them to do - excellent work! Very happy with the job - they added a 15' pipe onto our current culvert pipe, covered it with soil and then grass seed and straw. Professional and very friendly. Would recommend you give him a call."

"Rick was a pleasure to work with. My project was a driveway expansion and gravel bases for two sheds. He listened to what I wanted and made suggestions on how that could best be accomplished. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. The work was done when he said it would be and it met my desired outcome."

"I have hired Morehouse Excavating on several occasions for a variety of home projects some were minor and a few were major. I can say without hesitation this is by far the most professional experience I've had working with any individual or company at my residence. Professionalism, respect for your input and great value for the amount of work and attention to detail is why I would never consider using anyone else. There's no need to look any further!"

Small jobs welcome

"They got back to me quickly. Were very professional , respectful & trustworthy. I had a change order the day he started the project. Mike said no problem & adjusted his plans accordingly. I don't know if you can say a driveway is pretty, but I was so happy with it , I took pictures & showed my family. They finished it in little over a day! If I need anything hauled, I will be sured to call them. They said they haul stuff like mulch & other items. I am sure they can do other services also."

"Our home owners association was responsible for getting a structure torn down. We contacted a few places for estimates. C. Kirk enterprises returned my call and got a quote together very quickly. We used them for the project and they did a great job. Communication was excellent. They did what they agreed to do and kept us informed every step of the way. We will definitely contact C. Kirk enterprises for any and all jobs we have in the future. Thanks again!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

To determine whether your homeowners' insurance will cover crawl space repair, consider the cause of the issue. Repair may be covered if the problems were caused by an event that the insurance covers, such as vandalism or a windstorm. However, companies won't cover the repair if the issues are caused by neglect or wear and tear.

Chipmunks dig their burrows about three feet deep and up to 30 feet long. The entrances can be two inches wide or more. Chipmunks are fiercely protective of their burrows and use them to protect the nuts and seeds they gather for the long winters.

The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.

When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25 per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.

The time it takes to build a pool—and dig out the area—varies based on the pool size and type. A professional excavator will take between four and eight hours to dig a pool. The process will take longer if they encounter large boulders or tree roots. Keep in mind that this is a small part of the process in the long run. You will need between eight and 12 weeks to build a pool from start to finish, including the time to apply for permits.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.
