"Previously I had used Rod Poppe for our HVAC needs, however, when he retired he sold his business to Watkins.  When our air conditioning unit stopped running on Friday evening, I gave Watkins a call.  Since it was fairly late, their answering machine gave an option of leaving an emergency breakdown message or a regular message (which I chose due to the late hour).  On Saturday morning I gave them another call about 8:00 AM and left an emergency message since it was going to be a hot, muggy day and I needed the unit fixed ASAP.  I received a call back from Michael House, the on-call tech very quickly and by 9:30 he was at our house.  After doing a thorough analysis, he found a blown capacitor and low Freon level, but otherwise the 24+ year old unit was in good shape.  Michael was VERY professional, courteous, and thorough.  I would HIGHLY recommend Watkins for any HVAC work."

"Extreme Heating and Air Conditioning installed an 18 SEER HVAC system with zone control for me. I am very pleased with the results and performance of the system - far better than the previous system WRT air flow balance. All personnel were very knowledgeable and professional and I highly recommend this company. Thanks to Tristan, Brett, Ryan, Joe, Paul and special thanks to Dave and Tyler for working through some parts failures. I am very pleased."

"Hauserâ s sales manager and the field tech were both Very polite, knowledgeable and clearly communicated in as much technical detail as I wanted the repairs they recommended and why. Our previous HVAC service provider had diagnosed loss of AC cooling as a compressor failure and had quoted compressor replacement at over $3500 or even recommended replacing the matched AC & Evap Coil unit costing $5-$7K depending on the efficiency chosen. I approached Hauser for a second opinion diagnosis for loss of AC cooling and they diagnosed it as a deteriorating but not failed compressor and had it running in half an hour with a new replacement run capacitor and an add-on electrical gizmo â compressor saverâ at total cost of under $400."

"This company is fantastic. I had a mess in a home we bought to rehab. These folks cleaned the ducts, but saved me $4,000+ dollars on various things they found that were serious issues, that were not related to the ducts. Even found a place where a previous installer for my water heater set me up for a fire. These folks are fantastic. $700 cleaning, $3300 saved!!!!"

"Blair's services were great, from Greg who initially came out to quote the install, to the guys who actually did the install. We hadn't had any experience with local HVAC contractors, it ended up being a wise decision on deciding to deal with them. The install went smoothly, everything went just as planned, great looking work. Adam and the other guy who came out (can't remember his name) were the definition, in my experience, of what it is to be tradesmen. Clearly well-versed in their field, as well as informative without coming off pushy or salesey. Down to earth and professional. Give those guys a raise. Will request them for additional work, next on the list is an electronic air cleaner for the furnace."

"Bob showed up right on time, small explanation of what they was going to do and that it would take about 4 to 5 hours. They brought their equipment {very clean equipment and carried it were it went} in and got busy. 4 hours later, after explaining what they did and the work they preformed, they was on their. there was 1 concern with the furnace and they will be back out to fix it for me.Job well done."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

You should flush your AC drain line once every three months to keep it clear of debris and buildup. Keeping your AC drain line clean prevents clogs, backups, mold growth, and extra wear on your AC unit. If you live in a humid area or have several furry pets, up your cleaning schedule to once a month.

Some HVAC systems tend to use R410A refrigerant, although if you have an older model it may be using R22. R22 is banned due to its harmful environmental and health impacts, and it is a sign that your AC unit is old enough to consider a replacement and the significant efficiency gains that could come with it.

The standard rule for return duct sizing is that the return vent should be the same size or larger than the supply vent. This will ensure balanced airflow in your home and reduce strain on your HVAC system.

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

No, it's not safe to keep using your unit when it's frozen. Not only can running a frozen unit lead to damage, but it can also potentially overheat, making it a fire hazard. Therefore, it's always best to turn off the AC unit as soon as you notice any ice.
