"Chris communication is by far better than expected. He is not pushy and gives information and helps you with whatever you need. I needed to upgrade my softener system and he sent me messages monthly to see if I still needed assistance and I knew I needed to replace my system and 2 months later, I was ready and he showed up promptly to give me a free quote and then we set a schedule to install. He showed up on time and installed my system. The part that set sent him apart was he texted me 2 days later to verify everything was good. They have an automated pay system that emails you when job is finished, I payed with PayPal and it was done. If you need help with you water system, choose Chris. You won t be sorry!"

"Ryan is a very thorough, knowledgeable and honest man. He will not sell you a system that you don t need and will give you several options at different price points. He came within few days of calling him and put in a new water softener and filter a few days later. I would highly recommend him."

"I have very crappy well water, full of iron and very hard. My old water softener failed and I reached out to Nick of Clear Brook Water Solutions. He was very knowledgeable and helpful but did not pressure in any way. I mentioned other systems I had researched and he explained some of the cons of those other systems which I had already researched. They installed my new softener, which cost way less than their competitors had quoted, and I couldn't be happier. They even halled my old one away. My water is so much better now. Their unit performs way better than my 25 year old unit and I spent a lot more on that one."

"It went excellent.  He said I didn't need his services.  He told me what was wrong with each of the water issues I had in my basement, and he told me how to correct them myself.  I was very happy.  He was very honest, frank and helpful.  He spent close to an hour at my house, gave me great advice and didn't charge me a dime.

"The owner came out to discuss design ideas and list what we wanted.  Two weeks later, he had for us a very detailed list of the work to be done and the products selected (many of which we selected), along with the estimated cost.  We had received a substantial coupon from one of the potential suppliers.  House Medic used that supplier for many of the related materials, then passed along the coupon savings to us.  In getting the work done, the gentleman who did most of the actual work was pleasant, on-time, and easy to arrange work time with.  He was careful to close off the area where he was working, so that the house was not covered in clouds of dust, and he cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day.  He worked with us on timing, so that we were able to come and go as we needed, and, except for about 10 minutes, always had another working bathroom for household use.  House Medic gave us everything we wanted in function in the remodeled bathroom, and they left us with a room that is beautiful as well.  I believe we now have the best shower on the planet!

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

No, hard water isn’t dangerous. The added calcium in hard water can contribute to good bone health. However, it can also cause dry skin and hair. If you have dry skin or hair, consider using a water-softening system to help minimize the minerals in your water. Plus, these systems can also add some sodium to your diet.

You can use a commercial water repellent treatment for glass on your shower doors to prevent water spots. Take care to only apply the product to glass. Letting air circulate also helps prevent water spots, as water is less likely to remain on the glass for a long time with good air circulation. Run your vent fan, open a window, and leave the shower door open for about half an hour after using the shower.

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

The average cost to install a water softener, including the system and labor, is approximately $1,500. However, the total price can range widely from $600 to $6,000. For some complete systems, the cost may be between $800 and $2,500. Labor for the installation typically costs between $150 and $1,000.

The final price is influenced by several factors, including:

  • System type, capacity, and complexity

  • Home size and household water demands

  • Water hardness levels

  • Accessibility of the installation site and the extent of plumbing work required

  • Whether new electrical work is needed

  • The professional hired and any local permit costs
