"I'll bullet point a few concerns that are the most objective. First, I would like to note that the stonework on the fireplace is beautiful and Tony Haring at Western Hills Builder Supply was very helpful and worked with us multiple times throughout the process to correct issues. This rating is based on the following examples, which were communicated to the owner. - Project was originally mis-measured, something that was pointed out by another contractor and required a re-work of the quote and in increase to price. - Contractor neglected to check set-back requirements, which resulted in another rework and a loss of 10 sq. ft of covered living space than we had expected. - Architect suggested changes to plans that he said would not add to the cost, but the changes increased the quote significantly. The plans changed again, three sets in total, we paid for two, the architect compensated us for one set. - Quality of the carpentry supplies was not good. The wood was cracked/splitting in multiple places and while it was supposed to have been pre-treated, within a few months it was seeping through the paint. We requested repairs for the splitting wood and seepage, all of which was to be handled by the painter. However, the painter arrived to fix the issues without paint, a ladder, or drop cloths to cover the new patio and furniture. They had to buy paint and come back, then they only patch painted the repairs, never completing the painting with a full coat. I was told by the owner, that they would of course come back to finish painting, but they never did. - I've tried for 7 months to get an issue fixed with the border of our patio, which is crumbling at this point and needs to be completely reworked. I was told twice that this would be fixed by the builder and his contractors, but after not hearing back and reaching out a third time, I have given up on getting this repaired by them. I am getting quotes now and expect that it will cost us another $1500+ to correct these ongoing issues that were never resolved after final construction. -When the carpenters built the roof structure, they failed to cover the new pavers with drop cloths, which resulted in a permanent film that ruined the pavers. We had to have some replaced due to paint spatter from the painters and there was a clear difference in quality of the replacement pavers vs. the original pavers placed before the build. I assume that pavers should be put down after construction, not before, to avoid this issue. Unfortunately, this was never successfully resolved, and the quality of the paver is permanently compromised, despite multiple attempts to correct it. - Painter splattered paint, per above, needed to replace multiple pavers. We also witnessed a painter using the corner of our house as a urinal. An overall messy work site, at one point we counted 40+ cigarette butts littered around the house, we still find them when planting flowers on occasion. - Gutters pulling away from roof had to be reattached. We were told repeatedly by the owner that we were being too picky during the process and in fact that he had never worked with clients that were as picky as us. However, we were sold a company that places a high focus on details. In truth, I do have a high standard, but I was promised the same and the experience didn't deliver what we were sold. The fact that the owner would call a client "picky" is indicative of the experience. There were issues along the way that were corrected, but the process was difficult and we have chosen to address many of the issues on our own, because it's not worth the time or battle (painting, replacing flashing, hiring someone else to fix the patio border, etc.). I waited this long to complete a review, because I’ve been waiting to see if we could get all the issue resolved, but I feel that we’ve tried and waited long enough and given plenty of opportunity to correct issues."
