"Ruddy Ducts called me the same day to set up an appointment for them to evaluate my AC unit. Discussed fee up front. JOSH returned within hours to repair the AC unit to working condition. Very courteous and professional in my opinion. I would definitely recommend them for HVAC services."

"The provider showed up in the estimated window and was very respectful of my house (coverings on his boots and he avoided wall/door damage while moving equipment). He cleaned/sanitized my basement HVAC system, my upstairs HVAC system, and finally my dryer vent. There was a little difficulty with the dryer vent cap on the roof (improper cap was installed prior to this service), so he performed the dryer vent cleaning from inside. I appreciate the adaptability.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

Deciding whether to replace just the AC coil or the entire system depends on the age of your unit and the overall cost. Replacing a coil is less expensive than a full system replacement, but it can still be a pricey repair. If your HVAC system is relatively new and still under warranty, or if the replacement cost is significantly lower than a new system, replacing the coil can be a worthwhile investment that restores efficiency and extends the unit's life. However, for older systems (nearing the end of their 10-15 year lifespan) or those with extensive damage, it is often more cost-effective to replace the entire AC unit. Mismatched coils in an older system can lead to inefficiency and future breakdowns, so a full replacement ensures optimal performance and avoids further costly repairs.

You should flush your AC drain line once every three months to keep it clear of debris and buildup. Keeping your AC drain line clean prevents clogs, backups, mold growth, and extra wear on your AC unit. If you live in a humid area or have several furry pets, up your cleaning schedule to once a month.

Yes. Return air vents are responsible for gathering and pulling in the warmer air. Once they draw it in, your system conditions the air by removing the warmer molecules from it, allowing your air conditioner to dispense the cooler air back into your home. Not only does this create a more comfortable environment for you, but it also keeps your air conditioner from overworking, resulting in lower energy bills.

Swamp coolers cost approximately 50 percent less to install than central air conditioners and cost less to run. Operation costs depend on the size of the unit and home, your climate, utility rates in your area, and the system’s efficiency. Swamp coolers use 15 to 35 percent less power than air conditioners.
