At Rain-A-Way Exteriors, we strive to provide quality workmanship and materials at a reasonable price. If you want a fair and honest "No Hassle, Free Estimate" on Gutters, Roofing, Siding, Windows and doors, please visit our website or call us today. Our motto is "Satisfied Customers are our Number One Priority!" We now offer financing thru Synchrony Financial.

"Buyer beware. I had a 30 year roof put on my house by Rain-A-Way 10 years ago because I didn't want to worry about a roof leak and wanted better than a 20 year shingle. I got a leak on July 6th and called the company and left a message. I talked to them again on Monday July 8th and they asked for pictures which I sent that day. We had heavy rains all week, Contacted them again on the 9th, 10th & 12th and finally late afternoon on the 12th they said they couldn't come out until the following week. At no time did any of the 3-4 people I spoke with tell me to find someone else to get on my roof and put a tarp over it because they wouldn't be out for over a week and they just jerked me around all week. When your Rain-A-Away roof springs a leak down the road don't expect anyone to come out for days, you're on your own. Had I known that on Monday I could have had a coworker stop by and help me with that. Now I have extensive damage that I have to have fixed myself because they take no responsibility for not being upfront for days that they wouldn't be bothered to come out for a week and a half. I don't know how you can do business that way."

"We regret placing our order with Pella Cincinnati, and hope that this review helps you to avoid our mistake. In September, 2021, we ordered a replacement front door and large arched window (73” x 75”) above it from Nikki M., with an estimated install date of January, 2022. Final measurements for the window was done from the top of a ~6’ ladder, for a window placed above the entry door in a two-story open foyer. Installation was pushed back to late February due to manufacturing delays. As that date approached, it was pushed again because the door had still not been received. From March - April, we called a week or so after each door delivery date had passed, only to receive a new, more delayed date. In May, we requested that the window be installed, given the door’s unending delays. This was scheduled for June, 2022. The crew arrived as scheduled, and removed the old window from our home. They then installed the new window, only to discover that it was not the correct dimensions. Tommie M., a Retail Installation Manager, was called out to the house to give us our options: accept the window which had a very different arch to it than all the other arched windows on the front of our house, or have them make a template from the old window they’d removed and manufacture a new one (likely with a similar manufacturing timeline.) Given how off the arch of the new window was (more than 4” gaps on either side of the arch) we elected to have the correct window manufactured. This seems to have annoyed the install crew, who shifted from carefully centering the new window to nailing it in and sealing up the holes with spray foam, insulation, and tape. Following this installation, I’ve contacted Pella on June 17, and July 15, and have been told that the template was sent to the factory for engineering confirmation, a prerequisite for placing the order, and that there’s nothing they can do to accelerate the process. Status update calls placed on July 1, 29, and August 8 have simply not been returned. We’re now over 11 months from the time we signed the purchase agreement, with neither component successfully installed. While we understand that COVID-19 has impacted manufacturing timelines, there’s little excuse for the lack of communication from Pella Cincinnati staff, the utter lack of urgency in correcting their errors, and the complete disregard for the fact that the front of our home looks like a contractor abandoned the job mid-install, which is effectively what Pella Cincinnati has done. Save yourself some frustration, and order your doors and windows elsewhere."

FAQs for skylight service projects in Cincinnati, OH

In most cases, installing skylights will add to the value of your home, as buyers tend to like the appearance of these windows and prefer houses that let in natural light. However, savvy home buyers who know there are water damage risks with improperly installed skylights will want information on who installed the feature and when. If you can point to a professional skylight installer with experience, then the skylight is more likely to provide a better return on investment.

While it’s possible to install a skylight yourself, we don’t recommend it. DIY window installations are far more likely to leak due to improper placement technique. Making even minor mistakes could lead to thousands of dollars in water damage, meaning hiring a local skylight installer from the start would be more affordable. Plus, working on the roof is dangerous, as is maneuvering heavy, bulky windows up and into place. Even if you’re an experienced DIYer, we strongly recommend hiring a pro to install a skylight.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

The average cost to install a skylight is about $1,850, and most homeowners pay between $450 to $5,000 each. Your total price tag will depend on many factors, including the type of roof material, the pitch of your roof, ease of accessibility, the skylight size, and the type of frame and glass you want. You can potentially lower your price if you install multiple windows or skylights simultaneously. Remember to budget $500 to $2,500 for labor costs to complete this project.

Skylights might sometimes increase your homeowners insurance premium, but the increase is usually minimal. Some home insurance companies won’t adjust your premium with the addition of a skylight, so you can contact your insurer or your professional skylight installer to ask about any expected changes. It’s crucial to have an expert install the skylight, as insurance companies may not insure your roof or cover water damage that results from a non-professional skylight installation.
