"We looked at a home they were building and liked the quality of the construction and wanted them to build our new home. We had floorplans of what we wanted, and in early June, submitted the plans to them for their draftsman to turn into building plans. We also gave them a $10,000 deposit with the agreement that if we decided not to build with them, $3,000 would be refunded, together with the completed plans. As soon as we gave them the money, things started to go downhill. The company did not seem at all interested in building what we asked for, but seemed to want to build what they were used to building. Early on, I had a meeting with them about LEED certification and with the dollar amounts they quoted me to get LEED certification, we decided that the cost was not worth the savings. It took numerous tries for us to get the plans correct due to their sloppy proofreading of the plans from the draftsman. Emails were responded to only after numerous tries and they appeared to take quite a few vacations at some unnamed lake that (according to them) did not have phone or internet service at all. At one point they added a deck that we never asked for, windows we didn't want, no LEED certification and after 4 long, frustrating months dealing with them we received plans that were only close to what we wanted, but our frustration levels were so high we just wanted to be finished with them, get the plans and our $3,000 and be rid of them and their terrible customer service. After they sent us a bid that was ridiculously high, we notified them that we were going to exercise our option to take the plans and the $3,000 refund, per the terms of the agreement. We got no response after a week and sent them another email requesting the refund and plans. They finally responded with an email wherein they professed disbelief that we weren't going to build with them and asked if there wasn't anything they could talk to us about (amusingly, as they disregarded most of what we asked for from the beginning) We responded that "No, there really wasn't anything to discuss, other than when we would receive the refund" When they ignored this email, we finally hired a lawyer to send them a letter , nicely asking for the refund whereupon they responded with a bogus claim that extra work had been done and they were reducing the amount to be refunded by $640. As we were now 5 months into the process, and thoroughly disgusted by their unprofessional behavior we decided to cut our losses and take the reduced amount. Normally, I only write reviews when I have good things to say about a service I have used. In this instance, I felt compelled to let prospective home builders what they are in for if they deal with this company. Do not use Terry Inman Custom Homes. They will drive you nuts and overcharge you. We found another builder (Fry Homes) that we are in contract with to build us the home we want at MUCH lower price (and with Gold LEED certification) and have been very happy that we were able to avoid dealing with the Inman's ever again."

FAQs for chimney repair projects in Cincinnati, OH

Chimney repairs can take many forms for a seemingly simple structure, and costs can vary widely. Common chimney repairs include:

  • Chimney flashing repair: $150–$500

  • Repointing mortar joints: $400–$2,500

  • Repair or replacement of flue liners: $200–$7,000

  • Patching brick or stone: $350–$3,000

If you suspect a problem with your chimney top, call a professional masonry contractor for an inspection.

Some of the most common chimney problems include:

  • Creosote buildup

  • Chimney blockage

  • Deteriorating brickwork or stonework

  • Cracked chimney top

  • Damaged flashing

  • Flue liner damage or deterioration

  • Damaged chimney cap

If you suspect you have a chimney problem, contact a masonry contractor for an inspection.

On average, chimney repairs cost about $455. However, because of the vast range of potential repairs needed, the cost to repair a chimney ranges widely from $160 to $15,000, depending on the type and extent of repairs required.

The cost to replace a chimney is about $10,000 on average and can cost up to $15,000, depending on the size, accessibility, materials, and extent of the replacement. Sometimes tearing the chimney down to the roof line and rebuilding it is an option. But if the chimney's internal structure deteriorates badly enough, a complete demolition down to the fireplace or the foundation may be necessary.
