"We had a really poor setup in our master bathroom. The shower was not squared off properly when it was built and the original builders did some funky framing and shimming to make it work. Secure Bathing came in, fixed the framing so the shower was square, found us a shower pan to fit our non-standard size, and helped us pick out the right items to stay within our budget. They were able to work us into their schedule in a very short amount of time and communicated with us really well. In the end we got a beautiful shower with a warranty for an extremely reasonable price."

"Great job. Tristan arrived on time and performed the work very quickly. Completed the work of removing and replacing the water damaged plywood subfloor in my bathroom. He left the job clean and neat when he was complete and removed the old debris. I highly would recommend."

"I am very happy with my new shower. Takesha and John D. Were amazing. Takessha walked me through everything that they were going to do, take out tub, remove all tile and drywall.I had a drain pipe, that ran along my tub on the outside wall. We worked it out that, Takesha would have to pack out the wall a extra 21/2, to make it all work. Takesha and John really impressed me., they were amazing. They were super clean and coved everything. I am so very happy with there work and how sweet they both were. Thanks again Takesha and John D. And West Shore home"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Resurfacing a bathtub is less expensive than replacing one. Resurfacing a tub costs about $330 to $630, depending on the material, while replacing a tub costs an average of $4,150. But remember that resurfacing is a temporary solution for a worn-out tub, and you may need to refinish a tub every few years to keep it looking new.

Of the two most common and affordable bathtub materials, acrylic is notably better. Though fiberglass is cheaper, it is also more prone to scratching, chipping, fading, and cracking. Acrylic holds up better to wear and tear, cleaning, and sun exposure; the slight cost increase is usually worth the increased longevity.

We don’t recommend using a tub liner to cover up cracks in a bathtub. Instead, you should repair the cracks yourself if you have the experience or hire a pro. Cracks may seem like small surface imperfections, but they can lead to much larger issues, so repair them as soon as you can.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.
