"It went very well. Two crew members did it in one day. They didn't damage the yard, cleaned everything up and left no debris behind. They were efficient and thorough. They were also very knowledgeable about trees."

"Two people came out to do the job.  It took a few times to finally complete the job.  We signed the contract in April and did take him some time to come out.  They had to cut rose bushes, ornamental grass and other things.  It was important to get them done so it would be easier to complete the job on time. It was a good job when it was finally completed.  I would tell members to make sure you know what date or what the plan is before they sign the contract.  The owner seems very nice but it is a new company so they have a few things to improve.  The job was satisfactory since some things were not done they way they should.  If the rose bushes had been taken care of sooner we might have some roses."

"Clintonville - We had our 80 year old slate roof cleaned. The results were astounding. Before it was black with mildew, mold and algae. Now it looks like new. Work was performed by the owner, Micrin Norman, with careful attention to protecting our property and plantings. They were courteous and easy to communicate and work with."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Because adding a deck will yield a higher property value, you may have higher insurance costs. It’s important to follow the codes and regulations set by your local and state governments, so your insurance rates can be properly calculated. You may need an insurance revaluation after your deck is completed. The best course of action is to speak with an insurance professional to understand how adding a deck will impact your home’s insurance costs before you begin.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

Your deck may look or feel fuzzy after pressure washing because the high-pressure spray tears some wood fibers as it removes the outer layer of dead and discolored wood. This fuzzy effect is a normal part of the pressure-washing process and will go away on its own in a few weeks. You can opt to spot-sand your deck if you’d like to remove it more quickly.

Your deck may pop, and your neighbor’s deck may not for a number of reasons. Whether or not a deck pops will depend on how it was made, the conditions it’s exposed to, and the materials. Improper spacing is a common reason for increased pressure between deck boards. Moisture penetration is another.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.
