"George with Independence Plumbing and Bath exceeded my expectations. I had a tub and shower remodel that was not only finished earlier than quoted, but completed with such quality and at a great price. George is punctual, has great communication, and definitely knows what he?s doing and does it with care and professionalism. "It's worth every penny!! We had a 1980 bathroom. The professional craftsmen removed a wall that held the tub plumbing. Then the tub/shower was removed. The plumbing was rerouted to an inside wall. A completely sealed custom walk-in shower was installed. The surface is easy to clean. I love it!!"

"They did a great job. There was a slight smell of gas in my basement so I wanted to get it fixed to be safe. I called a company and they said my gas control valve was broke and told me it would cost me $700-800 to replace and the gas leak would be fixed. I wanted to get a second opinion to see if the first company was trying to overcharge me. I called Makeithot and had them come out to see what they thought. They checked to make sure all my lines were properly sealed and found that the leak was coming from the gas control valve but did not need replaced. They only charged me $250. Makeithot’s honesty saved me around $500! They were very professional and I thought them wearing the shoe covers while in the house was a nice touch too. I would definitely recommend them for all your hot water heating needs!"

"Had a toilet overflow badly. Minor damage to the bathroom floor, 1st floor ceiling and basement ceiling. Used Angie's app to call a plumber immediately. Ken Kaiser called back within a of minute and he fixed the problem 1 1/2 hours later. 5 stars for speed! Ken was very friendly and understanding of my situation and gave me good advice on water damage. Many thanks."

"Willie Cherosky and son are wonderful to work with.  They are pleasant, professional and honest.  I don't think anything in the bathroom could leak now even if it tried.  The garage ceiling looks like there was no repair done.  It blends in that well.  I have used Willie before and find him to one of the rare individuals that are honest, very experienced and takes pride in his work.  Whenever I have a problem, he is my first call now.   I have learned through the years, it's not worth calling anyone else.  He might be a little more expensive, but he is worth it.   You can give him the key to your house and trust that everything will be done and you don't need to worry about it."

"I recently hired Jay for some small plumbing repairs. I needed a garbage disposal installed and a leaking toilet repaired. Jay was quick to respond to my inquiry and he was easy to make an appointment and received a quote over the phone. Jay was polite and curtious when he arrived. I had a concern with the garbage disposal after he left and he returned to my home within the hour to look at my concern and made changes for my peace of mind. If your looking for someone to help with projects in your home I highly recommend Jay."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

You should never pour antifreeze down the drain or outside on the ground. Because it's highly toxic, antifreeze can still impact people and animals long after it drains. Antifreeze can contaminate water and sewage systems, and any that gets into storm drains and water supplies can attract animals and harm those that ingest it.

The most common situation in which you should turn off the main water shut-off valve is if there’s a leak in your home, such as in the kitchen or bathroom. Turning off the water supply can prevent further water damage.

You may want to turn off the valve before leaving for an extended period, in case of leaks or pipe bursts while you’re gone. If you’re going to work on plumbing fixtures or appliances, it’s also a good idea to shut off the main valve to ensure no water flow during repairs or installation.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).

The amount of time it takes to repipe a bathroom depends on how much piping needs to be replaced and how accessible the pipes are. Smaller, easily accessible jobs may only take a few hours, but projects that require drywall removal or removing old pipes or large clogs can take several days.
