"I hired Heather to help me pack up a home of 23 years. I need to purge as we were packing, I was downsizing to a small condo. Heather help me make some hard decisions on what to donate and what to keep. Her compassion made letting go so much easier. She is on time, organized and committed to seeing her projects through with an energy that is contagious. I wouldn’t have been able to make this move with out her!"

"Freedom Contracting did a fantastic job on our bathroom remodel! We are so happy with how it looks. It needed remodeling so bad. Brandon and his crew consulted with us every step of the way. Made suggestions along the way that really made the difference. They are very knowledgeable and when they start a job they stay on it till completion. Dependable and trustworthy. We will be recommending them to everyone we know. Ray & Cathi Fiorentino"

JoEllen returned my call and provided some information about their services and fees, and asked me about the project I had in mind.  When they arrived, they got right to work organizing my personal files that included some financial documents, insurance, etc.  They brought all labelling supplies with them.  They did a great job, and I felt very comfortable with them in the house.  This organizing and filing had been weighing heavy on mind, and it was a relief to get it done.  They saved me a ton of time,.

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

The features you choose for your laundry room to make it perfect depend largely on how you'll use the space, the size of your family, and their laundry needs. A perfect laundry room will have ample storage space, a clothes washer and dryer that are large enough for your needs and have good convenience features, and enough room to move around and work with enough countertop space to make laundry chores as easy as possible.

If you’re on a tight budget, the least expensive material you can buy for DIY closet shelves is chipboard, a.k.a. particle board. This inexpensive material is made from a pulp of sawdust, resin, and glue that’s pressed together under high temperature and pressure. As you can imagine, it’s not very sturdy and might buckle under your blue jean collection, so you should only use it if you’re storing very light items.

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.
