"The project went wonderfully. They showed up when they said, accommodated our unusual schedule, put plastic and cardboard everywhere they needed to work, moved huge furniture and completely cleaned up everything...including vacuuming and cleaning trim. And all under original estimate. We had miscellaneous drywall patching and fixing work throughout our house and they made everything look beautiful. As an architect, I almost never find people (especially young people) so willing to go above and beyond to make a project go so smooth. They did more than expected and were pleasant, respectful and were great at communication so we knew what to expect every day. We will hire them for future projects and very highly recommend them for any drywall project...residential or commercial."

"I hired The Patch People to skim coat and finish my living room of an old house that had textured walls. Bob and Chuck arrived on time, were very professional and protected the rest of my house from dust and cleaned up when they finished. The job was done on schedule and what a difference it made, its beautiful! They are a family-owned company who takes pride in their work and at the price they quoted I highly recommend them. I will defiantly be using them again."

"Adam is very responsive to messages and scheduling. While in your home, he is very careful and neat. He explains what is being done and gives you options. In the end, the repair looks great. This repair took two visits, both times Adam was punctual. After completion, he cleaned the area when the job was complete and it was very neat. Adam provides high quality work and is trustworthy."

"All work was completed quickly by Kris and his crew and better than I expected due to other contractors screwing things up or leaving them unfinished in the past. I had multiple holes to include in the ceiling. Everything looks great on the smooth walls & the patterned ceiling. Kris fixed water damaged walls and even cut out an access hole to water valves that had been mistakenly covered up by a past contractor I hired. He also went and picked up the appropriate type of plastic covering for the access hole. It's also important to mention for females looking to hire, I am a single female home-owner and felt completely at east with Kris & his crew all day long. I would recommend & rehire in a heartbeat!"

"Our stone pillar was destroyed and we struggled getting help to repair. Ronnie passes by our house frequently from job to job. He couldnt bare to see the damage so he stopped and insisted that he be given an opportunity to fix the damage. A true professional is someone who cares deeply about their work, so deeply that they could not bare to sit by and watch poor quality tarnish the reputation of the profession in its entirety. Ronnie is a true professional and i would definitely hire him for all my masonry needs."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.

There are contractors specifically trained in the design and construction of retaining walls. Retaining wall contractors are skilled at dealing with the soil on your property and assessing what kind of drainage should be installed. They will recommend the best materials to use for the project and can handle the processing of permits by local authorities.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.
