Small jobs welcome

"If we could give this company more than five stars we would. The company is run by honesty, integrity, fairness, and reliability, which is difficult to find. A company may start out with this in mind, but many fail to remember to keep Tru to this philosophy. This company has been in business a long time and has managed to hold true to this philosophy. We are extremely fortunate to have found this company. The workmanship is always done well. This company can do handyman work to large projects. This company is the only company we now use. One of the recent projects completed was a turnover of a rental unit, which involved painting, flooring, installation of hot water heater, and much more. Although we have not done a kitchen renovation, we have seen this company do amazing kitchen renovations! If you are in need of a kitchen renovation, we fully recommend this company. Great company for large and small projects!!!!! The work was completed in a timely manner and within a reasonable timeframe. All work was done at a reasonable unfair price."

"Well, trees fall sometimes and one fell and destroyed a large section of our fence. Once we had the tree removed we found this company and the job is done... already!! Unfortunately, it was a rainy day but they worked through it and got the job done! Excellent customer service!!!!"

"Rob did an amazing job. He has great attention to detail. What impressed me the most was his level of communication. I always had an update from him and he was very timely to respond to any inquiry I had. The job was to frame up a basement bathroom and small laundry room with a pocket door. I would recommend him for any carpentry work and plan to call on him for another job I have in the future."

"AJ was awesome. I needed a deck foundation built for a resin shed I am planning to put on top of it. AJ did everything I asked for and more. He had ideas that were above and beyond the original scope of work and implemented them. He was easy to work with and straight forward in his communication. He came by to give an estimate, three days later the job was complete. Thanks for everything AJ!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Many people, including professionals in the field, use baluster and spindle interchangeably to describe the vertical components of a railing (or technically, a balustrade). However, there are subtle or distinct differences, depending on who you ask. The most common interpretation is that spindles are thin or delicate versions of balusters.

Labor plays a significant role in the installation of butcher block countertops. Depending on who you hire, your location, the customization level of the project, and whether the wood is already finished, you may pay a professional between $10 and $150 per square foot to install a butcher block countertop. On average, expect the per-hour price to run between $60 and $100.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.
