"lkkllWork was done promptly and carefully, with little disruption of basement.  Included was the installation of a sump pump.
In the two years since installation, the system has worked beautifully and the walls, parts of which had gotten very wet, are now completely dry.

Architects questions, answered by experts

The climate in Ashtabula significantly shapes architectural service projects. Heavy lake effect snow requires roofs designed for high snow loads, while constant freeze-thaw cycles demand durable materials like fiber cement siding. High humidity and cold winters make high R-value insulation (R-38 to R-60 in attics) and energy-efficient windows essential for comfort and preventing moisture issues in your home.

Helpful?

For a new homeowner in Ashtabula, the first architectural service projects should focus on protection and efficiency. Start with an energy audit and a roof and gutter assessment to prepare for lake effect snow. Upgrading attic and basement insulation is critical for reducing high heating costs. You should also have a professional assess older windows and electrical systems, as many homes need safety and efficiency updates.

Helpful?

Yes, completing architectural service projects can increase home value in Ashtabula, where quality work stands out. Given the climate, energy efficiency improvements are highly valued and offer a strong return. Kitchen and bathroom renovations consistently provide a good ROI, typically between 55% and 80%. Projects that enhance curb appeal are also critical for resale appeal in Ashtabula’s revitalizing neighborhoods.

Helpful?

In Ohio, short-term benefits of architectural service projects include immediate energy savings on heating bills and improved home comfort during harsh winters. You also gain enhanced safety by updating old electrical or plumbing systems. Long-term, you build property value, increase your home's durability against the lake climate, and contribute to the ongoing revitalization and historic preservation efforts within your community.

Helpful?

In Ashtabula, OH, many older homes have outdated systems like knob-and-tube wiring or cast iron plumbing that architectural service projects often expose. Lake Erie’s freeze-thaw cycles can affect foundations, so structural changes may reveal settling. The Ashtabula Building Department’s permit inspections will help identify how your project impacts electrical, plumbing, and structural systems, ensuring a safe and compliant renovation for your home.
