"We couldn't be happier; that is the only way to start this review. Rod and Kristi worked with me on the design. They took the time to understand the materials and aesthetics that were important to our family. Changes to the design were handled quickly. Most importantly Virtuoso Landscaping fulfilled every single aspect of the contract quickly, neatly and with exceptional service. I was very impressed how polite and friendly everyone on the crew was. My husband who doubted the need for the stairs absolutely loves them. He now has a safe, efficient passage to his favorite fishing spot. Thank you, Rod, Kristi and Crew! Again, couldn't be happier. Can't wait for you to work some landscaping magic in the spring."

"We are in our 80’s and decided we needed to make our flower beds smaller and more manageable. At this time, we had at least 15 large beds and they were all full of weeds. Since we could no longer maintain these beds, we started searching for a landscaping company that could take care of all this for us. We went through a website called Angi and found several names to choose from. We selected Ground Breakers Landscaping & Demolition. The owner of this business is Sean Griffin. Sean responded immediately, gave us an estimate, we accepted, and he went straight to work. Not only did he and his crew do what we paid for (edging, mulching, weeding, planting grass where needed), they went above and beyond (to make everything look good), mulching around our trees, cleaning out an area of our backyard and putting in mulch and gravel, and made our fire pit area very nice. After showing us what he could do, we hired him to clean out an overgrown area along our driveway and he did an exceptional job with that as well. We are very pleased with Ground Breakers Landscaping & Demolition, especially with Sean. He is a very knowledgeable and caring individual who goes above and beyond what is expected of him. We purchased flowers from Sean, at a discount, Everything is just what we expected, and more. We will be having him, and his crew come back monthly to do the upkeep on our gardens."

"Chris with Friesen Family Renovations, LLC was very professional and thorough in the work he has completed. He installed a new screen door, replaced my tub stem and faucet, repaired my subfloor in the kitchen and installed brand new LVP flooring to replace old and water damaged flooring. He also mounted a television for me, and did some drywall repairs as well. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for quality and dependable work!"

"Guys were very likable. They respected our home and left the space ad they had found it. Will have to wait for the weather to see if the chimney flashing seal is finally sealed correctly. As it had been done by someone else prior to this."

"Top notch land and lot clearing did a great job clearing my lots. They were very prompt in reaching out when I did an online inquiry. They had someone out to do an estimate the next day. I was able to book the job and they had equipment out with in the next two days to do the job. They were very reasonable with pricing that I was actually surprised. The two gentlemen that came out and did the work were very professional and seemed very experienced. I would recommend them to anyone."

"Durastruct remodeled my kitchen cabinets for me. They were easily the nicest group of guys to work with. They gave me exactly what I wanted and did it quickly. Scott was not only funny but very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat. They were clean and neat while they worked. By far my best experience with any type of remodeling and will hire them again when it's time to do my bathroom. You will not be disappointed with their work."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

A major mistake is proceeding with excavating before receiving all state utility locates. Misinterpreting these markings creates severe safety hazards. Homeowners also ignore how clay soils collapse rapidly after rain. Altering your yard's grade without accounting for natural drainage patterns causes flooding for neighbors. Finally, digging during Akron freeze-thaw periods destabilizes trench walls and damages materials.

Helpful?

Homeowners underestimate how heavy clay soils behave during excavating work in OH. Clay expands when saturated and causes unexpected trench instability. Your planning must account for high water tables and strict local permit requirements for drainage alterations. Additionally, winter weather significantly shortens the usable season, and older neighborhoods hide unmapped underground utility lines that complicate timelines.

Helpful?

Trench safety during excavating requires strict adherence to proper shoring, as OH clay soils fail suddenly without warning. Improperly installing drain tile with the wrong slope makes foundation moisture problems worse. You must compact backfill layer by layer to prevent uneven settling. Additionally, failing to dig footings below the prescribed 36-inch frost depth guarantees expensive heaving damage.

Helpful?

Keep materials on hand to manage heavy clay soils and frequent rain during excavating projects in Akron. Stock up on tarps and erosion control supplies to protect open trenches from sudden storms and freeze-thaw cycles. You must also maintain clear records of your utility locate markings. Proper drainage supplies are essential to prevent exposed areas from flooding quickly.

Helpful?

Start by assessing your foundation drainage, as Akron clay soils trap moisture and cause basement leaks. Correcting surface grading away from the house is a critical early excavating project. You must also inspect aging clay sewer laterals for root intrusion. Repairing degraded sub-bases under driveways is another essential step to combat damage from regional freeze-thaw cycles.
