"Anthony and his little Minion (9 foot-4inches, lol) were amazing. They went above and beyond after they started and I wanted to change something. Their work was so impressive, I am hiring them for another project. Punctual, honest and direct, trustworthy - can't ask for anything more. Thanks again guys."

"The job was completed and the cost was resonable. My only complaint was that the appt time was changed 3 times before the final request from Shamrock, at 5:30 p.m., asking if we could be the first appt of the day, 9-10 a.m. They showed up at 2:30-3:00 p.m. I had to call Shamrock at noon to ask if we still had an appt. They replied now the previous job was not finished. Why would I get a call at 5:30 p.m. the day before to request if I could be the 1st appt of the day? Our afternoon plans were cancelled that day. I have no complaint of how job was completed but then I can't see the chimney cover being screwed in place. I guess I should have for a before & after picture."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

No, because they burn propane or natural gas, gas fireplaces do not generate ash like wood-burning fireplaces. However, gas fireplaces require maintenance, such as cleaning the glass doors, checking for debris in the burner or vents, and ensuring the logs or glass stones are in place. This maintenance ensures that the fireplace continues to operate efficiently and safely.

Chimney liners often benefit from insulation, though it is not always required. Insulation helps improve the liner's efficiency by keeping flue gasses hotter, which enhances draft and reduces creosote buildup. It also prevents condensation, which can lead to corrosion. Insulation is important for chimneys on exterior walls or in colder climates. Some building codes may require insulation, so checking local regulations is essential.

Yes, capped chimneys should still be vented. Failing to vent a chimney will result in condensation buildup inside the chimney, which commonly results in mold growth. If mold begins to grow in a chimney, it frequently goes undetected and spreads quickly through the home. Mold and moisture can damage the structural integrity of your home, and exposure to mold can cause discomfort and illness in residents.

One disadvantage of a wood furnace is that you need a constant supply of wood to run it. Even if you have a good amount of wood on your property (or have another way to get affordable wood), you’ll still need to chop it, store it, and re-fuel your furnace with it to keep your house heated.

In most homes, your chimney and HVAC are separate from each other. However, you can use your chimney to save on heating costs in the winter. Turn off your HVAC system and start a cozy fire, then watch the electric bills drop during the coldest months. Make sure your flue is closed when not in use so that you don’t end up pumping heat or cool air from your system outside.
