If you have a forced-air heating system, it’s important to have it professionally inspected at least once per year. During one of these visits, your contractor will look at all of the components of your HVAC system, including your furnace or heat pump, air conditioner, and ducts. Some homes in warmer locations have air vents in the ceiling because they do a better job of cooling than floor vents. This is because hot air rises and cool air sinks. Homes located in cooler climates tend to have vents in the floor because they do a better job of delivering warm air, which rises.

To clean an HVAC fresh air intake, start by going outside and figuring out where the intake is located on your home. Then, take a wire brush, rag, or wet/dry vacuum cleaner and use it to remove the built-up dirt and debris that’s accumulated on the external part of the intake.
