"Tom was very responsive and answered my questions before the inspection. He arrived punctually for the inspection and was very thorough. He contacted me after the inspection to give me his overall assessment. Tom provided a comprehensive report, including many excellent pictures, within two days, as promised. His fee was very fair. "He was on time, arrived at 9am as quoted and began to install the system. The system required two suction points and a sump pit cover. The sump pit originally had a pedestal pump in place and none of the other radon companies would change the pedestal pump to a submersible pump as required for the mitigation system to function properly. Rhino Radon not only changed the pump but installed a back flow check valve to ensure proper functioning of the system. All of the other companies said we would have to employ a plumber or a handy man to get this done. Had we gone that route the closing would not have happened. Rhino Radon gladly did all the work required and didn't even break for lunch!!! He was more concerned with getting us out of the vacant house seeing we are already down the cape. The system that involved a crawl space and being vented through the garage roof was completed immaculately and the test results came back at 0.5 pCil/L. This pleased the lender and buyer and exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Rhino Radon Services.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.

If your home has a sump pit, you can integrate it with a radon mitigation system. You can accomplish this by sealing the pump cover with an airtight lid that accommodates radon vent pipes and sump pump hoses. This allows the vent pipe to redirect the radon gas outside of your home.

Radon enters your home when warm air begins to rise and exits through the roof, creating a vacuum that pulls cooler air from under the foundation. Part of that air is radon, which is an invisible, odorless gas that develops naturally when radioactive particles are deep within the ground. Those particles usually come from decaying matter in soil and rocks.

No, air purifiers are not an effective way to reduce or remove radon. Radon is a radioactive, inert gas that cannot be filtered by standard air purifiers, which are designed to capture particulates like dust and mold. While an air purifier can improve indoor air quality by removing other pollutants, it should not be relied upon for radon. The only effective solution for high radon levels is a dedicated radon mitigation system.

Radon is the number one non-smoking cause of lung cancer in the United States, but it can cause some other concerning side effects in the meantime. If you have a raspy voice, chest pains, trouble breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any of the above, don’t hesitate to perform radon testing and install a mitigation system as soon as possible.
