"Sadler installed our fence for us. The guys were professional and worked hard to finish on time. The fence is gorgeous and we feel we got the best quality fence for our price range. Colin is easy to work with, explained everything and didn't talk down to us. We have a small yard but were never treated like a small job. We HIGHLY recommend Sadler fence!"

"I had 3 quotes, one from Good Neighbor, and two from other very highly rated fencing companies. The first quote was a fair price and seemed like a trustworthy and reliable company. The second was extremely expensive, and felt more like a sales pitch. They kept trying to up sell me from what I really wanted. Mark with Good Neighbor was the third and I was blown away by his presentation. I could immediately tell that he was passionate and proud of what he sells, and the work that he and his two sons perform. He went into great detail on the outstanding quality of the materials, and how they go above and beyond on construction (post depth and how they are set is important). He was able to arrange the work around my schedule, so we could get a playset for the kids delivered exactly when the old fence was taken down. His two sons were always courteous and friendly, even when working hard during hot days. They took time to explain to me and show me all stages of the construction. I was amazed when they showed me how far down they dig for the post holes, and how they bell it out at the bottom to ensure it doesn't get pushed out of the ground. Mark even took extra time to work with my neighbors (we both have pools, so the adjoining fence was double sided to ensure we are both to code), and explain to them exactly what would be done with their section. They took time at the end of the job to clean up, rake all the dirt, and get the yard as perfect as they could. They even took extra time to make sure they filled dirt right up to the fence so our small dog cant get out. In the end I would absolutely go with Good Neighbor again. The fence they built is incredible. They will definitely be in our neighborhood again, because a number of the people on our block pulled him aside to get the company information. I will recommend them to everyone I know that is in need of fence work."

"The work that was done entailed removal of existing exterior chimney pipe along with removal and replacement of the following: offset boot, storm collar, ice shield, flashing, roof shingles, and vinyl siding. The entire area was cleaned up and all debris removed upon completion. The repair men did a fantastic job and took the time to explain every part of the repair that was done. Also, when Igor came out and gave us the estimate he was knowledgeable and very thorough in diagnosing the issue and giving us a detailed plan for the repair work. The job was scheduled in a timely manner as was promised on the estimate. Igor also came out the day after the repair work was done and water tested the repair to ensure we would no longer have any water leaking into the house at that location."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Most people prefer to keep the fence level by “stepping” the fence when running a horizontal fence over a slope. Stepping involves raising each panel between the posts as the fence moves over changes in slope, giving the fence line the appearance of stair steps. While this may be the preferred method of running a horizontal fence up a slope, there’s nothing wrong with installing your fence so it follows the undulations in the ground instead.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

Paint your fence, install customized fence slats, or attach a bamboo screen for a more appealing yard aesthetic. Paint can give your yard a unique and fun look, and adding fence slats gives you a classic fence appearance. Bamboo screens are probably the most unique option that can add a fun vibe to your space.

A fence post set in concrete lasts anywhere from five to over 25 years, depending on how well the concrete was applied and the fence post’s material. Untreated wood posts in concrete could last less than 10 years, but a durable, treated wood set in properly applied concrete could last a few decades. However, all fence posts will wear out eventually, so expect to need to replace your fence post every five to 15 years.
