"My husband and I chose to work with Tyler and his crew after having spoken with a few companies to have foundation and brick work completed. Our chimney also ended up needing to be replaced. Those companies either could not do all the work we requested or quickly looked over our 84 year old brick home and just sent a quote. Tyler immediately responded and took a genuine interest in our project. I'm an individual with a rare illness and have a ramp in front of the house. A number of bricks needed to be removed from around the ramp area and Tyler did a tremendous job fixing this issue without moving the ramp. Throughout the entire project, Tyler kept in constant communication with us and was open to any questions we had . He and his team showed immense pride in the quality of their work and were always polite and considerate. We plan to use this company again in the future for any additional masonry work."

"I could not be more grateful to Jason and his men. My basement wall blew out a hole in the foundation. Jason was 1st to show and gave a written estimate, very professional. Once the weather broke, job was complete in 3 days; area was left clear and clean. NICE!"

"Anthony inspected our fireplace and cleaned our chimney. He was thorough and offered options and explanation about some cracking that has happened. He explained that it was not necessary to do anything now, what we need to keep an eye on and what we can do should it need repair in the future. He also came the next day and washed our windows. They look amazing and he offered suggestions on some options related to a few windows that have lost their seal. I truly enjoyed working with him and his colleague Jacob. The level of customer service and keeping me updated as to arrival time and schedule were amazing!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

For most brick cleaning jobs, including fireplace bricks, use a masonry sponge and a gentle cleaner. A simple solution of equal parts water and vinegar, or a few drops of dish soap in a bowl of water, can effectively remove grime. For tougher stains, you can use a dedicated masonry or fireplace cleaner. It is crucial to wet the bricks thoroughly with water before applying any cleaning solution to prevent the brick from absorbing it, and to rinse the surface completely afterward. Harsher cleaners containing bleach or ammonia should only be used as a last resort, and they should never be mixed together.

The best way to clean creosote from brick is to hire a professional chimney sweep. However, you can use a creosote log to remove excess buildup between cleanings. You can also clean minor creosote buildup using dish soap or vinegar mixed with water.

No, you don’t need to soak the brick before cutting it by hand. In fact, cutting a wet brick can make it harder to see your score lines and may cause the chisel to slip. Soaking is sometimes used with power tools to reduce dust, but for hand-cutting, it’s best to work with dry bricks for better control and visibility.

Stone houses used to be much more practical, but with the advent of stronger and cheaper materials like concrete, they aren’t seen as much anymore. There are some parts of the world where it makes sense to build with stone, and they are usually next to a stone quarry. Stone is, however, very weather-resistant, which is why many homes near the sea and on mountains are still built with local stone.

In most cases, painting your brick house is a fine idea that can open up new aesthetic possibilities. However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.
