"Hi Ben! Thanks for the 5-star review! We look forward to helping you solve your basement issues!"
Keeping in mind that this job didn't involve installing a brand new egress window, but rather replacing an existing one and simply deepening the outside window well, we were a bit shocked at the pricing. Given that we were paying a "Cadillac" price we were surprised to receive "Chevy" level service from a subcontractor rather than an Adirondack Basement employee. We were particularly disappointed that neither the engineer nor any other Adirondack Basement employee visited the site during or after the installation to confirm that it was done according to the engineer's specs. In fact, the subcontractor made a change to the specs to save time (and presumably money for himself) and the engineer never knew or approved that change.
While we understood that Adirondack Basement would not "finish" the window trim etc and we were comfortable doing that ourselves, we were again disappointed that the subcontractor left the window well completely uninsulated and essentially open to the elements. Only after we pressed him, did he grudgingly add a can of spray insulation.
We expressed our disappointment to Adirondack Basement and were given a modest price concession but we feel that the price we paid still far exceeded the quality of the services provided.
We've lived in this (55 year old) house for the past 12 years, and we've always had to deal with a periodic water problem in the basement. and wet weather exacerbates the problem. A few months ago things became much worse when our poured cement foundation developed three leaks, allowing water to flow freely into the basement. I called in four or five contractors to recommend a solution, and I was most impressed by Adirondack's analysis, which actually called for less work than most of the others (and of course, less money). The other contractors all insisted that a floortile system be installed to direct water into a new sump system, but Adirondack felt that our existing French drain would serve that purpose. They installed their "Super Sump" system, piped outdoors into a bubble pot. Repairing the wall cracks wasn't possible due to the deteriorated condition of the cement, so they recommended BrightWall panels, which served two purposes: they cover the ugly walls (and brighten the basement) and force any leaking water directly below into the French drain. I've deliberately waited until now (six weeks later) to write this review because I wanted to get an idea of how their system would work. I'm happy to say that the system has worked beautifully.
I'm very happy with Adirondack. They were very professional to deal with, their estimator was experienced and didn't try to sell me the moon, and their work crew and job site supervisor were great.
"Thank you for your review and for nominating us for the Page of Happiness! Please don't hesitate to call us for any questions or service needs you may have!"
"[Member Name Removed], I apologize if there was any damage to your property or the clean up was not properly done. I was surprised to see your review as we were never made aware of any issues after your installation back in August. I am forwarding this on to our Production Manager and will have him give you a call first thing in the morning to find out exactly what happened and see what we can do to rectify these issues. Please don't ever hesitate to contact us if you have any issues or concerns. If there is ever a mistake made by any of our employees, we take it very seriously and do whatever we can to rectify the situation. I apologize for any inconvenience and we will do our best to make this right."
"Thank you for taking the time to write this review- we appreciate customers sharing their experiences with other potential customers. Please don't hesitate to call us with any questions or service needs!"
"[Member Name Removed], I apologize as we didn't see this review on Angie's List until now. After speaking to an Angie's List rep yesterday, we discovered we had several accounts on Angie's List that customers had created separate from our main account- they have combined all of these for us and I am seeing this for the first time. I apologize for the inconvenience and I wish you had called to let us know of these problems. We are not perfect, and occasionally we find a mistake was made but work very hard to rectify any problems that may arise. I will have our Production Manager give you a call first thing tomorrow morning to see if there is anything we can do at this time to make this better. Please don't hesitate to call our office with any concerns!"
"Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the work you had done. Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions or need anything. Thank you"
I had to wait until a few days before the install date to find out when the actual install would take place. When they did arrive (late) they said it was a 1 day job for 3 men, but I was originally told it was a 2 day job... And only 2 installers showed up for the 3 man job. I was also told by the sales man that there would be no addtitional charges for anything that they didn't provide in the estimate... Yet, I was told it would be "better" if they did another line install for a 2nd sump pump I had. And there was a charge for it.
Once I went over the job with them, I left to go to work.....They called to say they couldn't finish the job that day and would be back the next.
When I came home from work the first day, I was very surprised to find out they left the front door open. Yes, open. My neighbor came by to make sure I was OK because he said he was very surprised to see my house wide open and my car no where around. He wasn't the only one that was surprised. So was I!
I met them at the house the next morning, and expressed my displeasure at the home being left wide open. They DID apologise, but that wouldn't have helped if my house wasn't still intact.
I rec'd a call from the installer that they were finishing up and had land fill to get rid of at the end of the 2nd day. They asked if it was OK to dump it in the depressed area near my neighbor's fence. I said yes, but when I came home, it was spread all over the lawn, including all of the stones and rocks that were in the fill. Where before I had grass, I now had a nice rocky bare spot. No where near the depressed are in the lawn by the fence.
And I had made plans to have some jacks put in, but they had to be ordered and I had other work I needed done before I wanted them to come back.... So, guess what I got from them? A bill for the jacks that they installed.... When they never actually installed them.
I have not had the encapsulation system in long enough to see any real benefit yet, but am not very pleased with the contact and professionalism so far.
"I am sincerely sorry there were some issues with your installation. After reviewing your account, it looks like we tried many times to contact you with no response. When we were able to touch base, we apologized and told you we would do whatever we could to make the situation right including having Kevin come over to take a look at your home. We had set up a time for Kevin to come out and meet with you and you had to cancel the appointment. We have tried several times to contact you to have Kevin come out so we could make sure you were happy with the final product. We do apologize for the issues with the foreman on your job. He had been with us for many years, but was in the process of trying to move out of state when your job was done- the foreman was let go immediately when we became aware that these issues had occurred. We did send you an invoice for the Smart Jacks prematurely- our controller was unaware at the time that you were having these installed at a later date. We also apologized for this and took 10% off of that secondary installation as well as sent our Project Manager back out to your home to clean up the stone that had been dropped in your yard and replanted grass seed. Again, I sincerely apologize for the issues you had, but we worked very hard to communicate with you and rectify all of the issues. This is NOT how our company operates and again this foreman was let go as soon as we became aware of the issues. We would still like to make this right. If there is anything else we can do for you, please give our office a call and we will do our best to fix thist."
