"Two years ago they insulated all walls in our home. A year ago we reached out and asked that they look at a wall in a room that was absolutely freezing cold. They completely missed 2 six feet tall cavities. Kirk said he would do us a favor and finish the job. Gee... thanks. A year later, tons of "I'm working on it", still not done. Now he says he's not getting my texts and that I shouldn't call the office, it's a bad idea. RUN. AWAY. Save yourself the time and headache. Go with any other company."

Blower door tests are measured in a few different ways, but the most popular are air changes per hour (ACH) and cubic feet of air (CFM) moving through the house per hour. A good ACH score is less than 2ACH, but 1ACH is better. This means the house experiences a total air change within 60 minutes (for 1ACH). Heat pumps transfer existing heat instead of generating it, using less energy. Compared to baseboard heaters, they can reduce heating costs by up to 50% and provide efficient cooling, lowering electricity bills and carbon footprint.

If you want a new boiler that’s going to help lower your fuel bills, you should buy one that has a high energy-efficiency rating. For example, a boiler that is rated “A” uses at least 90% of the energy created by the boiler. And in order to enjoy the best performance, it’s important to have it installed properly by a highly-rated tech.

Dehumidifiers typically use 300 to 700 watts of electricity per hour, whereas portable dehumidifiers use about 40 watts per hour. The exact amount of electricity your dehumidifier will generate depends on its capacity and energy efficiency. Generally, higher-capacity dehumidifiers generate more electricity than lower-capacity units, but they also usually have better energy efficiency over the long run.

The three levels of home energy audits include:

  • Level 1: Review of your energy bills and home for signs of energy inefficiency and areas for improvement. The average cost range is $0.08 to $0.12 per square foot.

  • Level 2: A level 2 ASHRAE energy audit costs $0.12 and $0.35 per square foot. In-depth analysis of your energy usage and provides a report of cost-saving changes.

  • Level 3: Comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations for ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A level 3 audit costs about $0.36 to $0.50 per square foot.
