A barbed wire fence will last an average of 15 to 20 years, but the life expectancy can range anywhere between five and 50 years. Thicker wires last longer, as do fences made with galvanized metal. Failing to keep up with maintenance and repairs will also shorten the lifespan of a barbed wire fence.

The decision to add a dog fence to your property depends on several factors. A fence can be a good investment for pet safety, particularly in areas with hazards like busy roads. In terms of materials, chicken wire mesh will be the most inexpensive option to use when building your fence. The downside is that it’s not the most attractive garden fence option.
