Small jobs welcome

"Joe and Joe (Father and Son Team) installed a kitchen back-splash for us, and we are very happy with the communication, and scheduling for the tile installation. We are very satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship of the final tile installation, their price was very reasonable, and they cleaned up before they left. JAC Creative Stone Works exceeded our expectations, and we would contract them for future projects without hesitation. Thanks Joe and Joe!"

"I decided to tile the kitchen floor but didnt know where to start. I was directed to Palermo Tile and contacted them. I was surprised at the immediate response to my query. Someone was at my house the next day taking measurements and offering an estimate of work to be done. It appeared very reasonable to me. Work was done the following week and completed in 2 days which was better than the estimated 3 days. All appliances were put back in place and the finished job is exactly what I had in mind at the start. Great job Palermo Tile and staff!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

Tile countertops can be an excellent and budget-friendly option for a kitchen, provided they are installed correctly. It's important to choose tiles, such as ceramic, that are heat-, water-, and scratch-resistant. When the grout is properly sealed, it will resist stains, making the surface easy to clean. Tile is also considered a sustainable material. For a cohesive kitchen design and added protection, you can pair a tile countertop with a matching tile backsplash.

Tile costs vary by material; for example, ceramic tends to be more affordable than stone. These influence installation timelines and skill requirements.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.
