"Absolutely beautiful job done by Joe in tiling my tub enclosure. Asked me what I wanted, offered solutions to a few problems. Extremely professional and left bathroom spotless when he was done. I'm very happy with the results. Will definitely use again and would definitely recommend!"

"Phil was professional and a good advisor for my home projects. He fixed broken doors, completed a full paint job, and also recommended tile work in the kitchen that up-leveled the appearance and value of our home. I would hire Phil again for my next project."

Small jobs welcome

"Thank God for Angelo and Emily! We are so fortunate to have been able to hire Tile & All AE to transform our bathroom. Emily found the tile, vanity, fixtures and shower doors which were exactly what we were looking for. Angelo is an incredibly talented, hard working and reliable craftsman. Our bathroom was in dire need of renovation. Angelo removed our awful, aging corner shower and replaced it with a gorgeous, custom corner shower unit with tiled walls and floor, glass corner shelves, brushed Nickle fixtures, sturdy shower doors and even created a custom tile and stone curb. He also replaced all the floor tiles in the bathroom and replaced the vanity. He also made our bathroom safe again. There had been a plumbing leak a few years ago, so there was water damage in the floors and shower walls. Angelo replaced 2 by 4's and insulation in the shower walls before tiling. He replaced the sub floor below the shower as well as the the floor for half the bathroom as it had suffered water damage from the previous leak. He accomplished all of this in 10 days, finishing a day ahead of schedule and at a very fair price. So now our bathroom is so beautiful, and now very safe."

"Hector and team did a great job replacing the curling seam tape on my vaulted ceilings. They replaced the tape and then painted to match the ceiling color, then painted my entire downstairs ceiling. The job took a couple of days and each day they left, you wouldn’t even know they were there. They were fantastic at tidying up after themselves. I added a before and after below"

"Empire was amazing - we needed to replace/cover flooring in a room with crumbling tiles and grout. The salesman who first came was knowledgeable and offered many options and we locked in our sale price. It was easy to reschedule when we had a tornado in town and might not have had power the day of the install. Also, the flooring we had signed up for went out of stock in between the order and install time, so they approved for us to have a non-sale flooring to swap out when our time came to install at the sale price! On the day of the actual install, the installer was right on time, and did the whole room in just a few hours, checking in with me along the way with any questions and Sebastian did a beautiful job! We will absolutely be calling Empire again when we need other carpeting or flooring!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.

If you hire a professional to install a new floor, you can expect to pay between $50 and $75 per hour for labor. It takes two days on average to install a new floor as part of a bathroom remodeling project, but your timeline depends on your bathroom’s size and layout.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.
