Small jobs welcome

"So happy we chose R&D for our exterior wall repairs! they were great to work with throughout the process of what turned out to be a complicated issue. Their communication was really appreciated as they dug into things and problem solved some unique issues with how the previous home owners had cut corners on the house. R&D wasn’t the cheapest initial bid we received but I have no doubt that we would have wound up paying more in the end for a lower quality result with anyone else. Thanks guys!"

"Great communication and answers emails within a day. Cares about deadlines & doing a good job. Nate is personable & pleasant. B&B painted the entire inside of our newly purchased home. Am scheduling Nate/B&B to return in the Spring for some outside painting. One shouldn't hesitate to call on B&B for all your painting needs."

"The job involved a floating group of up to five or six persons at a time. All of them were very polite and personable, responsive to questions and concerns. Overall, I could not hope to have a nicer work crew come to work in my home, and I had no concerns about not being present at all times while they were working."

"Alan was on site a day ahead of schedule, did the work in the time frame he promised, did a fantastic job, and didn't leave a mess. The rooms are primed now and I can't find any flaws. In the past I have done my drywall finishing so I'm quite fussy about the finishing. I would highly recommend him."

"Excellent! These guys fixed my roof and installed new gutters. The work quality was excellent very professional. Worked around my wife's flower beds and stayed until the job was done no excuses. We had 3 other estimates Southern District Contracting Services beat all three estimates and pointed out other issues. Would definitely recommend. Keep up the great work."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.

Yes, small, superficial cracks are normal as homes settle. Older homes have a higher chance of showing signs of settling through hairline cracks from temperature changes, moisture changes, and soil shifting. However, larger cracks, or discolored cracks from water damage, may signify a bigger problem that requires reparations and preventative measures.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.
