Small jobs welcome

"ProPavers did an excellent job. We hired them for 3 projects. They put pavers down in the front and back and built a huge retaining wall on the side of our property and everything turned out beautiful. He did exactly what he said he was going to do for the exact price he originally quoted. Very pleasant to work with."

"Love Bernie, owner of America Tree Co. He’s honest, efficient and does as promised!! He did a great job just as we discussed. He gave me the best price after several other quotes. I wanted the wood to be cut and left so I could use it for fire wood. He did just that , where the others only wanted to leave me the top branches and take my tree trunk so they could sell the wood, plus charge me a higher cut price. So Bernie cut my tree, left my wood, cleaned up and did a wonderful professional job. His workers are great too. Not my first experience with this so this recommendation comes with many years of experience. Thanks Bernie!!!!!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.
