"Lou from Simon Plumbing was a joy to work with. Polite, conscientious, great cleanup. I had water pipes leaking into the basement behind the wall of my tub/shower. Lou quickly identified the problem and did a beautiful job replacing the leaking pipes and tub hardware. He also unclogged a stubborn floor drain in the basement. My tub area looks amazing and no more leaks = peace of mind. reasonably priced."

Small full service Plumbing and Heating company striving to satisfy customers Plumbing and Heating needs.

"The work they did on the sump pump and bubbler was fine - but the mess they left me was not!!! I paid over $7,000 for the work and they left a huge muddy mound of dirt all along my driveway. They told me there was so much because they had to dig so deep - and the reason they didn't take the dirt away was that they told me I'd have a sinkhole once the ground settled. Well, winter is over and no sinkhole, but a huge muddy mess and part of my lawn is ruined!! I called and asked them to come and take some of it away - they said they'd stop by last weekend, but never showed and never called. It will cost me a fortune to have a landscaper come and fix the big mess! I am angry!!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

To unclog a plumbing vent, you first need to locate it. Look at your home's roofline. The plumbing vent will be a vertical pipe sticking straight up from the roof. Since this pipe runs all the way to the main drain underneath your house, you should also be able to find it in the attic.

Putting caulk around a toilet’s base where it touches the flooring can help hold the toilet in place. A more effective way is using caulk with plastic shim wedges. Place the shims underneath the base to steady and stabilize the toilet. Add some caulk to help keep the shims in place and provide a stronger and more lasting stabilization effect.

Yes, a toilet and shower can share a vent, which can simplify the plumbing installation and save space in your home. You’ll just need to make sure that the vent and associated plumbing are large enough to meet your local plumbing codes and handle the demands of both without compromising the efficacy of the vent. A qualified plumber can ensure that the vent is properly installed and adheres to local codes.

Copper pipes are the safest type of pipe for carrying drinking water because they won't leach chemicals into your drinking water. However, for the best water quality, you should use copper pipes with lead-free joint material. The next best options for carrying drinking water are CPVC and PEX pipes.

If you use copper pipes for drinking water, you should check your water’s pH level. If it has a pH value lower than seven, you'll need to balance your water acidity with a purifier to avoid corrosion that could affect your drinking water quality.

The overflow drain and wastewater drain connect to the same main pipe to take water away from your bathtub. Your overflow drain is meant to prevent damage to your bathroom—especially the floor around your bathtub, where excess water can quickly create a mold or mildew problem.
