"Ralph was very knowledgeable about gas conversions and I felt very confident hiring him. He was great at emailing or calling me back when I had questions before and after the installation. He is very neat and careful about doing things properly."

"Our first job consisted of having two chimneys repointed, which our home inspector told us was needed. The guys did a great job and we were very happy with the results. When it came time to replace the gas logs with a gas insert, we came back to Dunrite. Again, they were a pleasure to deal with. Service at the store was great, the unit they recommended for our space was demonstrated. We received a detailed estimate and never felt rushed or pressured. The same guys who worked on the chimneys last year came to install the unit, which has worked flawlessly. Overall, we have been very pleased with Dunrite."

"This company is FANTASTIC. A tree fell and severely damaged our chimney during Tropical Storm Isaias. The owner Rob responded immediately, secured area to prevent further damage to roof and deck, and provided an extremely fair, detailed estimate. He assured us that he would make himself available to insurance adjuster, and provide whatever was needed, to settle our claim. We were so impressed with him that we hired him on the spot. His crew was on the property that Monday, as promised. They were professional, friendly, & left property cleaner than they found it. Jim kept everything super organized & explained all work as it progressed. Bill is a true master, my new chimney is beautiful. (And he has the most interesting stories to tell! Ask him about restorations he has done and all the cool materials he has worked with). Bobby and Mo worked hard, and always with a smile. We will be calling this company back in Fall to replace inside firebox and service gas log set. They have a customer for life, we would never consider using anyone else for our fireplace and chimney needs. Great work guys, thanks."

"Could not have been better. Bob the owner and his team could not have been nicer or more professional. They could have easily convinced me I needed a new unit for around $5,000 a $6,000. (Combo units are expensive). But they took the time to do research, contact the tech staff at the manufacturer, and fixed my unit as good as new with a simple valve replacement at a fraction of the cost of a new unit. These guys are honest and do top notch work."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

All U.S. states require permits for gas grill installation, so you’ll have to get one before you move forward with your project. Permits help ensure that the gas line runs safely to avoid gas leaks and explosions. Gas line permits can usually also only be pulled by certified plumbers, which means you’ll have to hire a professional from the start. The permit for a gas line installation for a gas grill usually costs between $100 and $300. You can contact your installation company or building department for more accurate pricing.

No. Placing a built-in grill against the house is discouraged due to safety concerns. Building codes and regulations often require a minimum distance (typically 10 feet or more) between a gas grill and any combustible structure, including a house. Placing a grill too close poses a fire hazard and risks damage to the siding or structure, potentially leading to carbon monoxide buildup. It's essential to consult local building codes, follow manufacturer guidelines, and prioritize safety by positioning the grill at a safe distance, ideally in a well-ventilated outdoor kitchen or designated grill area.

The difference between a built-in and regular grill is installation and design. A built-in grill is integrated into an outdoor kitchen or structure, often within a countertop or island. It is a permanent fixture. A regular grill is standalone, portable, or cart-mounted, allowing mobility and versatility in placement. Built-in grills are typically larger with more cooking space, while regular grills come in various sizes. Built-in grills are favored for creating a custom outdoor cooking area, while regular grills provide convenience and flexibility.

Gas grill installation costs around $540 on average, not including the price of the actual grill, and most homeowners pay between $120 and $1,400. This total will go toward laying down a new gas line, connecting it to your existing gas system, pressure testing the line, and connecting it to your grill. Your total project price will depend on the length of the gas line, whether or not the line needs to be installed underground, and the cost of the permits in your area.

Built-in gas grills typically have a life span of 10 to 15 years. However, their longevity can vary based on quality, usage frequency, climate conditions, and maintenance routines. High-quality models made from durable materials tend to last longer. Additionally, regular cleaning, covering the grill when not in use, and conducting routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning burners and replacing worn-out parts can extend its life. A well-maintained built-in gas grill can provide excellent performance and memorable cooking experiences for a decade or more, making it a worthwhile investment for outdoor cooking enthusiasts.
