"Portchester Connection responded promptly to my request for a quote. I was looking to redo a bathroom with a start time within 2 weeks. They were polite and upfront with me. They would come by and quote the job, however they were too busy to start another project before the new year. The time frame did not work for me and I moved on. I would call them again if and when another project happens."

"We were considered an emergency case because we suddenly had no water. Joe installed a new pump and cap after removing the old one. He was pleasant, professional and answered our questions. I appreciate that his office kept in touch with us, as it's hard to tell the exact time their earlier work would take. We happy with the work."

"We had a leaky tub faucet that we tried to get fixed with other handymen that only worked for a few months and then started up again. Most recently it got pretty bad so I also gave it try and bought all the tools for it, but it still leaked. Frank from Fast and Serious called me up as soon as I requested a quote from a pro. He was able to give me a quote over the phone after looking at photos I sent him and was ready to come the next morning to fix it. He came on time as promised and was able to replace the old shower-body and kit fairly quickly. He also had a skilled tile, grout and sheet-rock person that put everything back in place like nothing had happened. I would recommend Fast and Serious Pipe Repair Drain Cleaning to everyone since they charged a fair price and did the work quickly and correctly."

"10/10 would recommend. After having another company come and they could not fix the issue I called winners and they sent out Jesse who quickly assessed and cleared the blockage in my main sewer using the high pressure hose. Very knowledgeable and even cleaned the area once he finished."

Small jobs welcome

"THIS JOB WAS DONE PROFESSIONALLY, FROM PRE INSPECTION AGREEMENT TO COMPLETION. I was very pleased with ChrisHanna's home inspection service. I was invited to follow along and observe the inspection and findings in real time. Inspection was within my budget. Received a thorough and complete evaluation report with pictures evidencing inspection findings. Chrishanna uses digital and old school methods to inspect and analyze. Inspection was conducted methodically and findings explained clearly and precisely. Safety recommendations were eye opening from our inspection regarding HVAC and kitchen stove. Offered DIY solutions and recommendations, as well as hiring Pros insights to address our issues. From my experience will recommend Chrishanna safely and home inspection services to my neighbors and do recommend Chrishanna services to Home Advisor community."

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Most manufacturers stopped putting asbestos in linoleum before 1980 due to public concerns about its toxicity. However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) didn’t ban asbestos-containing products until 1989, and a comprehensive ban was not announced until 2024. This means that homes built after 1989 may still have asbestos in their flooring.

Even a single, one-time exposure to asbestos can be harmful and pose health risks. According to the EPA, any contact can increase the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases and certain types of cancer, although the likelihood of severe health issues increases with repeated or prolonged exposure.

The severity of a single exposure depends on factors like the duration, intensity, and concentration of the asbestos fibers. While a small amount is less likely to cause significant damage, a high concentration can lead to serious long-term lung damage. Individual reactions vary, and asbestos-related illnesses may not appear for 10 to 40 years after inhalation.

Given these risks, always take precautions around any material suspected to contain asbestos. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may not be completely effective. If you suspect asbestos is in your home, hire a professional for testing and removal. If you are worried about a potential exposure, consult your doctor.

Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.

It can be safe to live in a house with asbestos as long as the asbestos-containing materials are intact, in good condition, and not disturbed. Asbestos becomes dangerous only when its fibers are released into the air, which happens if the material is damaged, crumbling, or disturbed during renovation work. If you suspect asbestos is present, do not disturb it. Instead of removal, materials in good condition can sometimes be encapsulated. It is recommended to have regular professional inspections to monitor the condition of the asbestos and prevent health risks from potential exposure.

Costs depend on test type, home size, number of testing locations, and whether follow-up testing is required.
