"I’m so happy with the service these men provided. They responded and came to inspect tree to be removed same day. After communicating what needed to be done and giving options that fit my needs and budget, they gave me a very good and competitive quote. They came to do the job same week and were on time for service. These men were neat and clean and very professional. They took care to ensure my gazebo was not damaged by falling tree limbs and even moved my lawn furniture to make sure that was not damaged as well. They were in and out in a couple of hours and were very pleasant to work with. These guys deserve more than 5 stars!! As a property manager with 23 buildings, these are my new go to guys for anything tree related. Will definitely recommend them to neighbors, friends and colleagues."

"Power Tree Removal removed my yard tree, which was infringing on 3 of my neighbors yards. It was a mulberry which stood about 2 stories high. They did it safely and efficiently. The crew were well supervised and all extremely diligent. I gave a few instructions to Alex and Sammy, and I didn't need to tell them twice. I even hugged Davey at the end. Power Tree was communicative, timely, respectful and hard working. All the boxes you would want checked when hiring a contractor, they check. One of my best experiences in hiring a contractor. I highly recommend."

"Mark from SavATree came to assess the damage caused by a severe windstorm and determined that it was best to cut the whole tree down as it posed a danger to us and our property. The workers who cut the tree down put in a long day - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. They were wonderful and clean and neat and did a very professional job. Their job was even more difficult because they had to cut the tree down piece by piece and then either bring it through my house (as we are all attached) or go up on my flat roof and throw it over the roof to their truck in my driveway. They were so efficient and good that I do not hesitate to recommend them highly."

"I had a great experience with this tree removal service from start to finish. Eric and his team were extremely professional, fully geared, and clearly experienced at what they do. They worked safely and efficiently the entire time, and the tree removal was carried out very carefully without causing any damage to our new deck or patio. What really stood out was their attention to detail and excellent customer service. Eric and team took the time to explain the process, answer all of our questions, and make sure we were comfortable every step of the way. They were also warm and polite people! After the job was completed, the crew did a thorough cleanup and left the area looking spotless. The pricing was very fair, the workmanship was outstanding, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Eric and his team to anyone looking for reliable, professional, and careful tree removal services. Azrin Liomar"

"This project deserves 10 stars! Five doesn't do it justice. Most professional sod installation we've ever had! In addition to the sod installation, the company upgraded our small urban garden with additional flowers and installed the most beautiful street tree pit EVER! All this beauty for a very fair price. We were so impressed with the job they did, we've hired them to come back and do our window boxes. We've used professional landscapers for many years, but KW Price is the BEST in NYC."

"Quote provided Sunday for complete removal of a huge Norwegian Maple and surgery to several other trees. Work scheduled and completed on the Thursday. They worked into sundown to complete the stump removal, but they still didn’t rush the cleanup. Very happy."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.
