"Kenny was great in being available and responsive to our changing schedule and getting us worked in for an inspection and repairs and Neil was fantastic and thorough in his initial electrical inspection of our home and getting everything fixed for us a week after the inspection. Great to talk to and took care moving around our home and keeping everything tidy and clean. Can’t recommend Great Lights enough if you need electrical work done."

"Great Lights Electric was on another very complex job when we spoke. It would have been many hours before they could help us. He spoke with my husband by phone and walked him through trouble shooting and solved the issue right then and there by phone! And all while he was up on somebody elses roof. Clearly this is a good company!"

"What can we say, but how Awesome Shotzie is at what she does. She is friendly, keeps you in the loop, was very responsive to any questions we had along the way and she takes great pride in her work. She goes the extra mile to make sure you are truly happy with the job she does. She painted our whole house inside, including ceilings. You won't be disappointed if you hire her. Thanks Shotize for all you've done and the kindness you have shown to us. Pam & Joe"

"Westside Home Remodeling made a bathroom from 1974 look beautiful! and up to date. They Installed a new vanity with marble top and fixtures, new toilet, new floor with trim, new ceiling fan, new light fixture and painted. The crew that came with Dan were all so pleasant and polite. With Dan's quote and my updating ideas he enabled me to stay within my budget. They finished before the promised date! Great company to work with. Dan was so on track with making suggestions to pull it all together. Thanks guys!!!"

"It was excellent. The work was superb. I couldn't have asked for a better job. They had to build a ramp unto the deck because I have a wheelchair. It was a tricky work and they did a great job. They thought of things that I didn't think of. They did a good job with the finer details. They did a good job with the landscaping too."

Holiday Decorating FAQs, answered by experts

There are many types of Christmas lights to choose from when working with a light installer. The main types available for outdoor lighting are dome, LED, incandescent, and C9, and your lighting professional’s choice will depend on the location and overall design.

C9 lighting is typically the most expensive option, ranging from $15 to $70 per 25-foot strand. These usually have fewer bulbs per strand, so you might need more than expected to cover a large area. Dome lighting is usually the most cost-effective option, ranging from $6 to $15 per 25-foot strand. These bulbs are smaller and rounder than other options, creating a softer look.

There aren’t many alternative methods to hanging Christmas lights on fascia without using clips. But if you don’t have fascia clips to hang your Christmas lights, you can use clothespins in a pinch. To do this, hold the strand of lights in place and clip it in place with the clothespin. Using nails or staples is never a good idea, as they can damage your fascia.

During the holidays, big box hardware stores sell many kinds of clips and hooks made specifically for hanging Christmas lights—including ridge clips, gutter clips, shingle clips, and mounted hooks. It’s best to avoid nails, staples, and screws since they can damage your roof.

It’s not a good idea to mix LED and incandescent Christmas lights if you can avoid it. LEDs and incandescents can have significantly different electrical current needs. This difference can lead to a higher risk of problems and failure for both light strands. When possible, switch all your lights over to one kind or the other for the best results. Do not connect the different types of light strings to each other, and avoid linking them to the same circuit.

An affordable Christmas light bulb testing and replacement tool can make the job easier. But you can most likely make all necessary repairs yourself using common toolbox items if you’d rather avoid purchasing another gadget.
