"Dan did an amazing job with our project! He built a solid, level foundation and constructed a large shed with loft area. He was skilled, efficient, dependable, and knowledgeable. And also just an all around cool, friendly person to work with. We would not hesitate to call him for additional projects!"

"Our house is over 100 years old and has a stone foundation. On the uphill side of the house, water would come through the wall and run across the floor. Having worked with David Friedlander before on other work I called him up. He suggested digging out to the footings and waterproofing the outside of the foundation. When we dug out, we found that the outside of the foundation was loose and unmortared--sealing wouldn't work well. He suggested building a form around the foundation and pouring a new concrete wall around the existing foundation. It worked amazingly well. The basement is dry as a bone, and the foundation should be good for another hundred years at least! His crew is professional and hard-working. They worked through a snowstorm, and took great care of our place. Best of all, David and the rest of the business are easy to communicate with, clear on expectations and needs, transparent on costs, are able to be scheduled quickly, and work fast. They're great!"

"Gene and Ryans' worth can NOT be captured in words. They are consumate professionals and gentlemen. They are not only experienced in building and its many aspects, they are current in their knowledge. Given their certification and knowledge in all necessary areas of the build they were able to single handedly complete the project (no subcontractors!!). They are not only capable of designing and crafting exactly what you want, they are desiring and able of "thinking outside the box" to build unique and timeless homes using top quality construction.

Gene and Ryan did the work EXACTLY as they said they would EVERY day---even when we were not there!! They cleaned up every day leaving our home seemingly untouched....more importantly, they took every effort to keep our home dust free while working. They warned us about up coming "loud days" and made green product and building choices without our needing to ask simply because my partner was pregnant. They spoke openly about building and design choices and the associated costs. They educated us along the way so we could make any decisions that would effect the bottom line. They provided a price and timeline months before they began--had two unexpected events (common with remoding) and STILL finished when they promised!!

It can be said that as consumers we expect builders to "know what they are doing" and "do a good job." We expect honesty and fairness and quality but what we remember and what makes us so happy to recommend Gene and Ryan is the fact that they are such quality people who are obviously proud or their craftmanship/knowledge and have every right to be so!

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

Adding burnt charcoal to your garden beds and plant pots can yield several benefits, but there are risks involved, too. Charcoal, particularly biochar, can enhance soil structure, improve water drainage, and increase nutrient retention. When activated, charcoal provides key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. However, burnt charcoal, especially from briquettes, can inadvertently alter soil's pH levels and become hazardous to plants. Overall, there are better and less risky soil amendments available, such as vermiculite, perlite, or wood chips.

Eco-friendly materials include sustainably-sourced woods, recycled metals, low-VOC paints, and non-toxic sealants, which reduce environmental impact. Using these in repairs promotes sustainability and can improve indoor air quality and overall building health.

Minor fixes like patching leaks or repainting are DIY-friendly, but structural repairs require professional expertise.
