On 1/7/2024 we entered into contract with Rockledge Remodeling and Keith Paton to build a stand alone garage and finish our basement. The contract stated we were required to give him half of that sum upfront, which we did. As the work progressed he brought up water leak issues and we were advised they that can not continue work until those issues were addressed. These issues were stemming from the main en suite bathroom, which was an additional cost to remedy. Next we were told there were cracks the foundation, so that was also an additional cost (which was not done properly). He insisted on reusing 20+ year old insulation that had severe water damage from all the leaks, plus was not the correct insulation to begin with. We ended up paying out of pocket for new insulation materials and labor due to mold concerns. He wanted more funds for a French drain to help lead the water away from the house/yard, which we refused to pay being that he came prior to assess the whole project indoors and outdoors and none of these issues were brought to our attention. The contract stated there would be a team of 3-4 workers on sight for approximately 25 days, which did not happen. The company that was doing all the work was subcontracted by Keith, they were not professionals in the slightest. The stand alone garage is not water proof, we can not use it for storage as it is useless to us as is. Every time it rains the garage doors, the side door, and perimeter of the interior walls pour water in. Both the indoor and outdoor projects are not useable, livable, safe, to code, not to mention the numerous cosmetic issues. We have exposed live wires, insulation, unfinished outlets, the kitchen is unfinished, the bathroom is unfinished, complete rooms left undone because he decided they were not part of the basement, the floors are separating and lifting and can not be walked on, hazardous garbage was left everywhere. We agreed on a price and as the project progressed there were many additional costs/ issues that should of been noted when he initially came to access the project as they were noticeable, There was also major issues such as water leaking into the basement entrance and we brought it to his attention several times from the beginning and we were ignored, he proceeded to install the floors anyway. It got to the point where I was prohibited to speak or consult with Keith because of all the issues I was concerned about as the project went on, so my husband was the only one he would speak to or he threatened that he would walk away from the project. After about 4 weeks my husband fired him as he also became aware of the subpar work and lack of progress. He would not come by to assess or look into any of the complaints or concerns we had, the only time Keith would show up to our home was to collect his installment payments. This project started in January and we are now in August without anything to show for it except a complete butcher job. It has been a very stressful and nightmarish situation for my family, I highly do not recommend Keith or his company.
