"Excellent experience from start to finish! The home energy audit showed me where I was losing heat and areas that needed attention. Getting the house sealed and getting blown in cellulose and an attic cap installed professionally is something I would recommend to any homeowner. Expediant energy came to install it soon after the initial estimate. which in this winters bitter cold temps is something I really appreciate. I Noticed the difference immediately. Anyone who is paying for heat and looking to improve their insulation should give these guys a call you won't regret it!"

"Arrived 1 hour late. Said they were bringing parts Brought "guts" for toilet flushbox. Didn't need it. Five minute repair had toilet working again. Brought bathroom faucet with them. Did not bring kitchen faucet which he said he had when we spoke. So the went to Home Depot and came back with faucet. He then proceeded to install both faucets. He then told me I owed him $900.00 which I was not prepared for. And I told him so. Angi's estimated a repair for somewhere around $342, I think. I had $550.00 put aside for the job. I gave him that. I usually keep $200.00 at home for emergency. Gave him that as well. Since he still didn't seem satisfied I wrote a check for the final $150.00. He said make it out to cash. And check HAS been cashed. I felt completely intimidated. I'm 82 years old and live only on social security. I have never felt so 'taken advantage of' in my life. And since my name will be provided to them, I guess I now need to be afraid of retaliation. A bit scary. But I need to do this anyway. If only to save others from the same fate. He actually had the audacity to charge me $100.00 for the toilet repair which, as I said, took 5 minutes. That's $20.00 per minute! After they left I went on Home Depot's website. The bathroom faucet retailed for $27.00. He charged me $50.00. The kitchen faucet retailed for $89.00. He charged me $150.00. On the phone I was told how 'fair' they were. No way!"

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

A blower door test shouldn’t take more than an hour, and most can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Expect the test to take longer once you start searching for leaks with thermal imaging or want to include sealing such leaks in the time estimate. The test doesn’t take much time and can’t be rushed, but it will take longer in large homes or those with many air leaks.

A whole-house humidifier can positively impact energy consumption by improving heating efficiency. During colder months, humidified air feels warmer, which allows you to lower your thermostat without sacrificing comfort. This adjustment can lead to significant energy savings as your heating system works more efficiently. However, it's important to use the humidifier judiciously, as excessive humidity could potentially strain your cooling system in warmer months.

Yes, most audits include a report with prioritized recommendations for improving energy efficiency. Confirm with your auditor.

A good SEER rating for an HVAC system is typically between 15 and 20. However, minimum requirements vary by location; HVAC systems in northern states must have at least a 14 SEER rating, while those in southern states need a minimum of 15. For the highest possible efficiency, look for units with a SEER rating of 21 or higher. It's important to remember that a SEER rating represents the maximum efficiency a unit can achieve, not the level at which it will operate at all times.

R-value measures an insulation material's thermal resistance, indicating its ability to resist heat transfer. A higher R-value signifies better insulation performance because the material is more effective at slowing heat flow. The R-value depends on the type, thickness, and density of the insulation material, such as fiberglass, foam, or cellulose. Each inch of insulation typically provides an R-value between 3 and 8. There is no single universal R-value; the optimal choice depends on your climate zone. Colder climates require a much higher R-value than warmer ones to maintain energy efficiency, keep the home warm in winter and cool in summer, and manage costs.
