"Ultimate pros. Extremely efficient and knowledgeable. Called for a quote for insulation and received an education on all aspects of my attic. Brian performed a complete in house audit of my energy systems while he was here. Just wish I was in a financial position to hire a top shelf professional organization such as theirs. My loss."

I conduct energy audit tests for homes, whether they are colonial or brand new construction. I can recommend you various forms of weathersealant, thermal wrappings, and storm window techniques, saving you thousands in the form of long-term heat insulation tech-forward solutions.

"Green Audit performed a home energy audit on my home. I originally purchased the deal they offered through Angie's List for $75, but was informed by Green Audit that the audit can be done for free provided by funding through PSEG so Green Audit refunded the $75 and there was no charge for the audit. Matt and Richard performed the audit. I thought they were very professional and provided a lot of useful information. After the completion of the audit they provided me with an estimate for recommended efficiency work and a ROI summary of what the work could save me in money over time. The estimate they provided was extensive and included a lot of items for energy efficiency, some of which you would not get from a typical insulation company, I thought their pricing was a bit on the high side and I decided not to use them."

"It went really well. They came in immediately and sealed off the basement from the rest of the house (There's no door to the basement)). They also set up very large and powerful hepa-air-cleaning units which they kept running through the whole job and in fact until the industrial hygienist returned for post-testing after the job was completed. The manager Mike assured me that the job would be done with the utmost effort and care and that's exactly what happened. The main workers, Marcello and Israel were terrific, meticulous, hard-working, reliable, responsive to any concerns I raised. I really couldn't have asked for any more. The post-test results showed Zero spores of the two bad molds with high readings in the pre-job testing. It's a really nice feeling when people come in and do the job just as they promised to."

"Powersmith (Mike and his team) was the most professional, courteous, clean and prompt group of plumbers we have ever had the opportunity to work with. They arrived EARLY to perform the job both days.  The job which was a very large one, included removal of our old oil system including the tank, prepping of our chimney, installation of our new gas burning system.  Each team of workers was more efficient than the next.  The first day the Salesperson, Joe came to our house, we knew they were the ones for the job.  They operated like a (pardon the pun) well operated machine.  They were so professional and looked genuinely happy to be here (which is very rare these days).  They left our house looking as if nothing was even done (and this was a huge and dirty job). This was a costly, long and well thought out change for us and we interviewed no less than 5 other plumbers from all over Nassau County. We are SO happy we chose them.  I would recommend them to anyone and wouldn't hesitate to call them in the future.  Thank you Powersmith!"

"Joe did a great job on this, our dining room was a add on to connect the original home and the garage and had no insulation and boy in the winter it was unusable as well as the kitchen basically (the best part of the house). Joe came and drilled small holes in the attic floor that they sealed up later to allow for blowing in the insulation. And they cleaned up well. we have a 20 month old but there was nothing left over for the baby to put in her mouth. Joe is great! Our dining room is toasty and the kids can play in there year-round Plus they are were less than half of the expensive "efficiency" guys PSEG sent over. Those providers wanted to charge $10,000+ for basically the same job."

"The customer service and work done was great, they came quickly assessed what work needed to be done, gave me an estimate that was very close to final price and a reasonable price at that. I’ve had to call plumbers in the past and they’ve left my place a mess, but these guys cleaned up way more than I expected. I was in complete panic before calling and they were extremely helpful and made the process an ease. I would definitely call them again if I need the services."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Keep the unit full but not overloaded, ensure door seals are tight, set correct temperatures, and avoid frequent door openings. Position the appliance away from heat sources for optimal performance.

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

Homeowners may qualify for an HVAC tax credit if they install an ENERGY STAR®-certified HVAC system that exceeds the energy efficiency minimum standards:

  • Split-System AC: 16 SEER2

  • Packaged AC: 15.2 SEER2 and 11.5 EER2

  • Ducted Split Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.8 HSPF2, and 11.7 EER2

  • Packaged Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.2 HSPF2, and 10.6 EER2

  • Mini-Split System: 16 SEER2, 9 HSPF2, and 12 EER2

You can claim up to 30% of the cost of the job, subject to maximums.

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.

While some aspects of an appraisal, such as comparable properties nearby, are out of your control, there are several steps you can take to potentially increase your home's value. Make any necessary repairs and upgrades before the appraiser's visit, as they can only value what is currently part of the home, not its potential. Examples include renovating older areas, updating landscaping to boost curb appeal, and staging your home. You can also provide the appraiser with the cost of recent upgrades, which may increase your home's value by about 50% or more of what you paid for those improvements.
