"We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Bath Planet of the Southern Tier. They had been recommended to us by a neighbor. From the first phone call to them I felt like we were in good hands. When Doug, our sales representative, came to the house he was friendly, professional and very helpful and understanding of what we wanted done. We needed to wait a bit for installation but they did come to install when promised. William and Ryan were the team who did our complete remodel from tearing down walls to installing a beautiful walk in shower and every detail we asked for. They worked hard for over a week. They prepped their work area each morning and cleaned up each evening. They worked diligently and kept us informed. They were also very friendly, respectful and professional. After the work was completed Doug returned to check on the finished product and take pictures. We could also address any questions or concerns to Doug throughout the project. We highly recommend Bath Planet of the Southern Tier."

"Bath Fitters end product was fine...but had to comeback for a full second day to redo shower walls not installed quite right. No extra charge but took a day out of my life. I am pleased with the final result"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

Yes, sewage smells can originate from a floor drain. If the P-Trap in the floor drain dries out or if there's a clog or other issue in the plumbing system, sewer gasses can escape through the drain, causing nasty odors. Regularly pouring water into the drain helps maintain the water seal and prevent those smells, but if the smell persists, you should have a plumbing professional inspect the drain for potential problems.

Plumbers start out at the apprentice level and then move up through the different levels of plumbers over their careers. After being an apprentice, plumbers move to journey-level and finally, plumbers who have met certain requirements for education and experience move up to master plumber. Most plumbers working on your home’s plumbing will be journey-level plumbers.

No, your toilet tank should not empty completely when you flush. Although the water level will dip a lot after you flush, it shouldn’t be totally empty. If your tank is empty, you might have issues with your fill valve, float ball, or toilet trip lever. You should check all of your toilet parts to ensure they’re working correctly and make any necessary adjustments.

A back pressure valve is a control valve used on production vessels, such as separators, treaters, and free water knockouts. The valve holds pressure until a set point is reached, and then releases upstream pressure to reset. Back pressure valves are not safety mechanisms. Instead, they are regulators designed to keep the fluid, gas, or liquid mixture in a system at a certain pressure level to prevent bursts and other incidents.

Meanwhile, a backflow preventer is a safety mechanism that kicks in when the pressure has already failed and contaminated water flows in the reverse direction. Most backflow preventers consist of two one-way valves, or check valves assembled together. This design only allows water to pass through in one direction but not the other.
