"i have been going to Bills (proprietor) leather cleaners for over ten years.    Bill takes ultimate care in making sure he can do the best in removing any stains or water spots in my leather and or suede goods.  i have brought in purses, jackets, dresses both in leather and suede and it has always come back as PERFECT.   Bill will even call you when he receives the item to discuss the spots, his assessment  of what he can do to repair it and bring it back to new.  Worth EVERY DIME (and its reasonable) to see your item brand new again !! i have even fed ex"d items to him so he can repair for i trust no one else. "

"Captain Max was referral and I could not be happier. He responded to my initial call within one day, asked appropriate questions to make sure he understood what I needed and came up with a plan. He was completely transparent with how he did his pricing and made a time to come out to my home within the week. His reliability and punctuality was only the beginning. I was so happy with the repair job that he did and I ended up asking his advice on a few other projects which led him to have to come out a second time. Again, besides the creative and attention to detail work he did, he is really pleasant to work with. I wasn't sure how to find a solution for an area in my house, and Max thought about it, presented some ideas and really had that "mind's eye" going. He has an easy going manner and humble way of talking. I had no idea how accomplished he is until I researched him a bit further. He has no airs about him and really enjoys what he does. He did not leave until he completed every thing that I asked. His pricing was very fair and he was as "out of the way" as he could be. He was so happy with some cold seltzer while he worked and that's all he asked for. I am so happy that Captain Max was sent to me. His work ethic, work product and pleasant professionalism are the complete package and I happily would recommend him for any project large or small."

"These guys were great!! We had a delivery of a massive new front, all in one piece, very heavy. They handled it of total care and stored it in our garage with all the very long trim pieces for installation next day. Kind of an unusual item to deliver so was concerned about the glass, scratching, damage. Again, 5-star handling and very pleased!!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

The time required to reupholster furniture depends on the item's size, complexity, and condition. The hands-on work can range from 2-3 hours for a simple dining chair to 10 to 20 hours for a large sofa. The total project timeline with a professional, including fabric sourcing and scheduling, typically ranges from one to three weeks.

Several factors can affect the timeline. Antique furniture often takes longer due to the delicate care required. If additional repairs are needed, such as sanding or refinishing wood components, the process will also take more time. A DIY reupholstery project will usually take significantly longer than a professional job.

Furniture made from materials resistant to sun fading includes metals like aluminum, stainless steel, and wrought iron, as well as certain synthetic materials like polyethylene (commonly used in outdoor wicker furniture) and resin-based products. Glass tables and accents are also sun resistant. These materials inherently withstand UV rays and are less prone to fading or discoloration. Furniture with UV-resistant coatings or finishes, such as powder-coated metal or UV-protected plastics, offers enhanced protection against sun-induced fading.

It is generally worth repairing leather furniture rather than replacing it, as it is typically more affordable and the material tends to retain its value. A typical repair averages around $250, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars a replacement could cost. Even a full reupholstering, which can cost up to $4,000, may still be more economical than buying new. With proper care, repaired leather furniture can last for many years, making the investment worthwhile. However, if the underlying structure or frame of the furniture is damaged or malfunctioning, replacement might be a better option. The quality of the leather and the furniture piece are also important factors. For a definitive answer, it is best to consult a leather repair professional to assess your specific situation.

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

You can make your dining room look more expensive using one or more of several methods. If you're remodeling, you can consider raising the ceiling height, installing an elegant chandelier, or redoing the floor. For smaller renovations, consider changing the paint color to a deep and rich tone, such as burgundy or emerald. You can also swap out the table and chairs to achieve a richer appearance.
