"Utilizing All Service Moving for the move was a very positive experience. They had good communication, answering several questions prior to the move and did a final confirmation just prior to the move date. As for the physical move itself, Jose, Abraham, and Alberto were polite, diligent, and careful moving the many items, and managed to complete the move more quickly than anticipated."

"I recently made a move between NYC apartments and using Teddy Moving was the best choice I could have made! I’ve never used a moving service before so this was a great first experience. The movers were so quick and efficient while still making sure to be careful with all of my belongings and thoroughly wrap all my furniture. Everything was set up at my new apartment in a matter of hours and I didn’t have to lift a finger, absolutely amazing job."

"I recently moved for the third time with Shleppers. They pack and move everything for you, taking all the effort out of moving. They show up on time, take good care of your things, price is reasonable, what else do you want?"

"Our move was relatively small - emptying out a few piece of large furniture and some luggage from my father-in-law's assisted living studio apartment. Men On The Move was the first to provide an estimate from the few movers I contacted. The estimate was very reasonable, and they folks were very helpful throughout the planning and moving process. I would definitely use them again."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Products that are hazardous, such as aerosol sprays, top the list of what to leave behind during a move. Avoid packing perishables, garden and garage chemicals, pool supplies, compressed gases, and combustible items. If you are trying to move by yourself, you may want to downsize so you have fewer belongings to pack and move (and then unpack).

Unscrew and remove furniture legs if possible. If it’s not possible, then run the straps parallel on the inner side of the furniture legs. Never put your straps on the outer side of legs where they can easily slip off.

There are several effective ways to save money when hiring a moving company, primarily by handling some tasks yourself and being strategic with scheduling. Consider these methods:

  • Pack Your Own Belongings: You can significantly reduce costs by packing and protecting your items yourself. This includes wrapping delicate items, organizing them into boxes, and taping the boxes closed. You can use towels, clothes, and suitcases to pack belongings and protect breakables.

  • Provide Your Own Materials: Source free packing materials from friends and family, or reuse boxes and bubble wrap from a previous move.

  • Schedule Strategically: Book your move well in advance. Rates are often lower if you schedule your move on a weekday during the off-season, which typically runs from October through April.

  • Compare Quotes: Get moving quotes from at least three professional movers in your area. This allows you to compare services and choose the best value.

  • Ask for Discounts: Inquire if the moving company offers any special coupons or deals.

  • Purchase Moving Insurance: Protect your investment by purchasing moving insurance, especially for expensive or antique belongings.

  • Divide the Labor: While you can save money by packing, it's wise to leave the more dangerous and physically demanding work—like loading, unloading, and moving heavy furniture—to the professionals.

Bed frames are big, bulky, heavy items that are difficult to move. Moving an assembled bed frame isn’t a job for one person, and depending on the size, movers may struggle to fit it through door frames. It’s often easier to disassemble to frame, even when you have multiple professional people helping with the move.

Moving a house is a complex and labor-intensive process, which is why it can get so pricey, particularly if it’s a large home. In some cases, the house may need to be dismantled, moved in sections, and then reassembled at the new location, which can add significantly to the cost of the move. However, it’s typically less costly than building a new home.
