"This company really lives up to their name. They are definitely “expert movers”! The crew of 3 men showed up within the estimated time frame. We did a walkthrough of the house and I pointed out several pieces that would require special attention, which they provided. The men were pleasant, courteous, and professional - even when one piece of furniture which had to be dismantled would not cooperate. In the new house they placed everything where I directed, and checked to make sure it was situated correctly. They made what could have been a stressful day go very easy."

"What a great job these folks did. We basically were only moving furniture, as we had "pre-moved" most of our clothing and knick-knacks, but what a great job they did with furniture: taking apart and reassembling furniture, wrapping and protecting finishes, and securing our goods on their truck. They did move one closet of clothing, hanging it in wardrobe boxes and rehanging at our destination. They were as busy as bees throughout the process. I highly recommend Moving APT."

"On Sunday (!!!) morning, Mark phoned me within minutes of my completing the online form. My responsibility was to clear my family member's apartment following her unexpected death. We met there an hour later, he gave the estimate, and said he would haul away and dispose of the items that were not in condition to donate, and would distribute the rest to the appropriate charities. He returned as agreed a few hours later and took everything away. He was professional, polite, and efficient: a true lifesaver in accomplishing an onerous task."

"AAA';s crew were polite, punctual, and took great care to make sure they knew the extent of what I wanted removed.  They were very careful not to damage my house and property.  The landscaping blocks that they removed were very heavy, and the crew was careful not to overload their hauling vehicle which would have otherwise damaged my driveway.
I was extremely impressed by their courtesy and thoroughness.  They were pleasant and friendly.  I got the impression that they were doing the work as if it was their own home they were working in.  I would use this contractor again for similar projects in the future."

Hauling questions, answered by experts

The only packing material that isn’t often recyclable is rubber, but rubber bands aren’t common for packing and moving. Some materials used for moving, like cardboard, paper, and hard plastic, are easy to recycle and can often just go out for regular pickup with your other recyclables, like cans and bottles. Plastic films and packing peanuts can be a bit more difficult to recycle and usually need to go to a dedicated recycling facility that can handle those specific materials.

Simple hand clearing is possible on a small scale, but substantial work requires professionals to properly use heavy machinery and execute it precisely.

The most affordable way to get rid of junk often involves a do-it-yourself approach, especially if you don't have a large amount of debris. Start by sorting your items into categories: donate, recycle, sell, or trash.

  • Donate or Sell: Usable goods can be donated to local charities. You can also list items for free or for a low price on platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

  • Use Municipal Services: Your city's regular garbage collection or bulk pickup days can be the cheapest option. However, be sure to check community guidelines for quantity limits and accepted materials. You can also take recyclables to a city drop-off center.

  • Haul it Yourself: If you have a truck or suitable vehicle, loading the junk and taking it to a local transfer station, public dump, or waste disposal facility is a very cost-effective method.

If a DIY approach isn't possible, consider these options:

  • Rent a Dumpster: You can rent a dumpster, fill it yourself, and the rental company will haul it away. This is a good middle-ground if you can do the labor but don't have a vehicle for transport.

  • Hire a Junk Removal Service: While typically the most expensive choice, hiring a professional junk removal team is the most time-efficient and requires the least effort from you. This is a good solution if your city's services won't accept the items or if you are unable to move them yourself.

Dry, unopened bags of mortar mix can be donated to neighbors, friends, or family who may have use for them. If you want to dispose of mixed mortar, you can dilute the mixture with water and pour it in a remote, unused area of your yard that won’t be affected.

Disposing of old paint, bleach, oil, and fertilizer should be handled by a company that specializes in this kind of waste. Many private junk removal companies do not dispose of these items. Because these materials are hazardous to the environment and dangerous to handle or dispose of improperly, you should confirm with your local municipality about places to take hazardous materials for safe disposal.
