The number of workers who arrived to do the trimming work was amazing. They worked for several hours and I felt that the value for my money was very good... nice work..
dissatisfaction has to do with clerical mishandling, unreliable oral statements
by agents and principals as well as preposterous threats made by the arborist,
who also serves as collections? enforcer.
Initially, I decided to hire this firm to guard against the Emerald Ash Boer because the
arborist/salesman claimed that his firm inoculated/treated my town?s ash trees.
Because I had read that the town had thousands of ash trees, I was
persuaded. (Only after payment of the disputed amount, did I learn that this
statement was untrue.)
On June 28, 2013, my ash trees were inoculated/treated by John acting
as agent for Haskell?s. At the time, I asked John if he was going to fertilize
my ash and spruce trees. Arborist, Sam, had recommended ?deep-root
fertilization? for shallow-rooted spruce trees. John answered that
fertilizations were not performed until fall, which I later learned was the
industry standard. John further stated that he, himself, did not do
fertilizations.
The next day, a runaway vehicle ran into the spruce trees, visibly damaging the first in line
seriously and shearing off branches of the second; the third and fourth also
suffered damage, but less noticeably.
A few days later, I called about the tree damage and spoke to Laurie, the office manager, requesting that
someone look at the trees. Two days later, Sam, the arborist, left a telephone
message indicating the future of the severely damaged spruce was uncertain.
Since a closer later inspection showed all trees were damaged to some degree, I
wondered whether Sam had merely done a drive by. The insurance rep advised that I needed to decide in a
timely manner whether to replace the trees. On July 9, in order to extend the
benefit of the doubt, I sent a FAX to the office asking to speak directly to
Sam. My concluding sentence clearly read that I was told that fertilizations
were not undertaken until fall (by their own tech) and, moreover, that I wanted
to be notified before any fertilizations were performed. Understandably, I needed time as well as additional information to consider the situation.
The following day, July 10, I found an invoice stuck in my door for fertilization of the spruce as well as other trees.
The date was a mere 14 days after the inoculations/treatments by John , not even mid-summer and clearly not fall.
When I called Laurie asking for some financial consideration specifically for the spruce trees, she denied ever receiving the
FAX, then handed the phone to Sam, who was intimidating and insulting. Some
days later, Sam left a message on my voice mail saying that unless I
paid the extra $140.00 for the spruce fertilization, a lien would be filed
within the week against my property which would prevent me from using credit
cards along w/ other absurd threats. He went on to say that he talked to the
tech who did the fertilizations and that I had supplied ?misinformation.?
Further, my "time line" was faulty.
Sam?s comments were insulting as well as wholly untrue. (The tech to whom Sam referred was John, who told me in
June that he didn?t do such work and that fertilizations weren?t done until
fall.) Embarrassed to say, I paid that $140 in question. By this time it was 30 odd days from the
time of the alleged 7-10, service and, most compelling, I
wanted to be done with such bullying and suspect business practices.
"Let me start by saying Haskell Tree Service has been doing business in the buffalo area for 44 years and we guarantee our services 100%. We wouldn’t have the reputation we have employing business practices outlined in this review. We make all efforts to rectify customer complaints to the best of our ability, through communication and understanding of expectations of both parties. However there are always a small percentage of people that can’t be reasoned with no matter how much we try. [member name removed] is part of that small percentage. Our reputation speaks for its self, of all the reviews on Angie’s List we have one unsatisfied customer. It saddens me to be part of this discourse and that it had to occur due to the efforts of one individual to besmirch Haskell Tree Service out of spite. Haskell Tree Service stands behind a 44 year history of excellence and our reputation speaks for itself."
They are fast and do great clean up work--nothing left for me to clean up at all. I will continue to call them in the future.
I have recommended them to neighbors.
"First of all, this is from a job they say we did 5 years ago. Why would they give us a failing grade 5 years after the fact without notifying us of their displeasure? They asked for $200 to be sent to them. I don't understand this. I know you can't satisfy all people at all times, but we were not given the opportunity to set things right. If we ever did any damage, especially to a neighbor, we would immediately fix it, no questions asked. This person should have contacted us directly."
* I wish they'd have the courtesy to knock on the front door and say "We're here" prior to wandering in the backyard. Doesn't just apply here, but has been our experience with several contractors.
*Not impressed with cleanup considering cost of service. Understand that logs aren't going to be stacked in nice neat pile, but please pickup other debris. My neighbor made same observation without my prompting.
* Hit chain link fence when they dropped the tree. Though damage was not extensive, made no effort to bend bars back in place.
* I felt compelled to make this entry almost nine months later after recently having other trees felled by another service. Significant difference in professionalism, cleanup, and work provided, at less cost. Having seen other options, I wouldn't use Haskell Tree Service again for the purpose of cutting down large trees.
