"I have hired Joel many times over the years to install cabinets and do carpentry work in my home and on other project where i was a project manager. Joel was clear, thoughtful about when he could come and was on time. He did excellent work and always completed the jobs. sometimes he needed a reminder about tidying up at the end, but always did so willingly and with good grace. i highly recommend him"

"Chris saved me $10,000! Chris was able to repair my front door in 1/2 a day. This is not the first job he s done for me. It s the second. He s also worked at my elderly in-laws house. Chris keeps his prices Florida, but his work ethic is New York. He s on time, perhaps the cleanest contractor I ve EVER seen, and his estimates are on target 100% of the time. Couldn t ask for a better job & he s a good dude too."

"Keith and his crew did an amazing job painting the exterior of our house. We also had them replace all the water damaged wood from our back porch and window wells. This was a large job and took them a while to complete, but so worth it. They have several excellent carpenters on staff who were able to recreate all the intricate details of our railings, posts, etc... At the end of each day, the workers cleaned, swept, and organized the materials. We are extremely happy with the quality of their work and will used them again in the future for all of our painting/ construction needs."

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

The cost to install soft-close drawers professionally typically ranges from $40 to $100 per drawer. If you prefer a DIY approach, you can purchase the necessary hardware yourself. Soft-close inserts usually cost between $15 and $25 per drawer, while soft-close drawer slides can range from $5 to $230 each, depending on factors like quality, quantity, and type (e.g., heavy-duty, side mount, under mount, or self-closing). Investing in soft-close mechanisms can be worthwhile as they eliminate slamming and may help extend the lifespan of your drawers.

Solid wood is the most common material for cabinet bases. It’s a popular choice because it’s durable and will hold up over time. Oak, maple, cherry, hickory, and pine are all types of solid wood that can be used to build cabinet bases. Other options include plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and other types of manufactured lumber, but they need to be sealed properly to avoid swelling, separating, and delamination from moisture.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

The cost to install a kitchen island ranges from $900 to $6,500, with an average price of around $4,800. The final cost depends on whether you buy a prefabricated unit or have one custom-built. Prefabricated kitchen islands are generally cheaper. A simple prefabricated cart can cost between $150 and $900, while a permanent, stationary prefabricated island costs from $900 to $5,000. A custom-built kitchen island averages around $4,800 but can cost $10,000 or more depending on factors like materials, size, design complexity, and accessibility.

How much cheaper it is to replace your cabinet doors depends on your needs. If you’re looking to spruce up the look and feel of your kitchen, then you can make cosmetic adjustments to your existing doors, like installing new knobs or a fresh coat of paint. Cabinets can be some of the most costly parts of a kitchen remodel, but if there’s structural damage regarding your doors, then replacing them is your best option.
