"In June 2018, we contacted Legend Pest Control from Elizabeth NJ. The co-owners are Karina and Alcides Ramos. We chose them because my husband had met Karina at a Chamber of Commerce meeting and we wanted to support local business. Al came to the house, did an assessment, answered all my questions, suggested a plan, and gave us what sounded like a fair price. Over the next weeks, we received treatment on three separate occasions for our problem. At one point we discovered we had not prepared properly for a particular portion. We agreed that I misunderstand and Al maybe could have explained it different. The problem was corrected before the final treatment. When our treatments were finished, Al told us that we might still see some "straggler activity" but that is was normal. In December 2018, we called Al with definite live activity. He told us to "monitor" and let him know. In June 2019 we again experienced an infestation. We notified Al who said he would come by in three days. At this point we contacted two other pest control companies. We told them our story, and they explicitly said that in December 2018 the problem should have been addressed. They said there is no such thing in this instance of "straggler activity" of live bugs. They both agreed that the current level of our problem was due to the length of time the problem had gone unaddressed. We cancelled our appointment to have Al re-assess and chose to give our business to another company. We also contacted Legend Pest Control asking for a partial refund due to the significance of them giving us incorrect information and not re-assessing when we called in December 2018. We received an email back that was unprofessional, and contained incorrect facts and did not address the chief complaint of their mistake. We responded again clarifying the facts. At this point, Legend Pest Control has chosen to ignore us, not take any responsibility for a mistake they made, and refused any type of partial refund to compensate."

"Our neighbors discovered a rat’s nest in the back yard fence-line between their apartment and ours and additionally a second home for rats by the trash area shared by our whole building. We called Evergreen Eco Pests and were told that they could come by and for $300 they would close any holes up to 3 inches and dust with poison to eliminate the rats. But because there were two areas with rats, the trash area and the one in our back yard, the cost would be $600. They arrived, didn’t close any holes, didn’t dust any areas, and instead only wrote up a report telling us where the rats were (which we already knew) and what felt to me were fairly obvious explanations about how the rats were getting in (i.e. “rear left of structure has a large gap between buildings — this gap is large enough for rat entry”). Rather than setting any traps or dusting, they told us we should have a contractor rebuild our fence so it’s less accommodating for rats. Then they left and charged us $598.81. To their credit, this is, I guess, what we agreed to. I guess there were no holes small enough for them to fill, and I guess they felt there wasn’t a way to effectively dust. But to charge $600 to hand me a piece of paper that tells me where the rats are which I already knew and to still have rats, you can imagine I feel a little gouged. Given that I felt nothing had actually been done and had been charged quite a lot of money, I called to complain and see if I could negotiate. To pay $150, even up to $300 felt reasonable to me. They made the trip, they wrote up a report; they should get paid for their effort. But for nothing practical to have been done to ameliorate the rat issue and to charge the full amount (that double price (!) just because they looked at two sides of the building!) really left a bad taste in my mouth. I was told that’s what I agreed to and that was that. I recognize that they feel they did what they said they were going to do. But I’m definitely unhappy with the service I got. And since they weren’t interested in being flexible and working something out with me, the best thing I can do is turn here."

"I just got off the phone with the owner Ray from the Queens location who is completely unprofessional. I had called a month ago to fix a water bug problem in my boiler room. I paid $220 for this service. A week after I noticed a water bug near my bedroom. (FYI my house is completely immaculate so it's not coming from anywhere else but my basement). I immediately called to say that the spray they used didn't work, and they told me to give it some more time. Fast forward a month later and I still have the same problem. I had called Ray a second time to tell him how the problem was never resolved in the first place. I asked if they can come back and try using the gravel instead of the spray because it's stronger. I feel that I paid for a service that I never received. However Ray didn't think I was a good enough customer because I only call yearly for summer service. He wants to scam and get me to pay for monthly service blaming it on rain. (It's 90 degrees today) I told him I didn't mind paying for monthly service but that I would like him to waive a one time fee being that the bugs never responded to the chemicals used. I can understand if the problem returned months later but not one week later. Do not use their service!!"

It all started with a single employee back in 1992. There was just the owner, Josh Broughton, a truck, and a simple fumigation system. Back then only cockroach extermination services were available. But as the years added on, other forms of insects were added onto the roster. Next was termites, as that usually merits fast response from homeowners. Nowadays Father and Son Pest Control can take on any problem no matter what the species.

Different pest control methods exist to help mitigate an infestation. Not every technique will work with every pest, which is why speaking with a pest control expert is crucial to taming your problem. Different methods of pest removal include:
Heat treatments
Freezing treatments
Traps
Barriers
Chemical pesticides
Fumigation
Rodenticides
Mechanical devices
Repellants
The cost of pest control is $175 for the average homeowner. However, you could spend as little as $100 or as much as $500 or more, depending on the infestation size, the number of visits you need, and the pest you’re exterminating.
For example, if you need to rid your home of spiders, you’ll likely be spending between $100 and $300. However, if you have a termite problem, you can expect a bill of $230 to $2,500 or more, depending on the infestation size and damage caused.
There are specific methods for pest removal that you can DIY without hiring an expert. If you are preventing pests from making an appearance or clearing out a small infestation of harmless insects, you will likely have success on your own. However, if you’re dealing with pests that eat wood, bedbugs, or other pests that carry a disease risk, like rodents, it’s always worth it to call a pest professional to help you.
Even if you’re not immediately showing signs of pests, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of routine pest control. This should be done yearly, quarterly, bi-monthly, or monthly, depending on your location and if any signs of infestation are already present. For example, if you live by water, you might experience more pests in the spring and summer than someone who lives in a dry climate. Discuss treatment options with your pest professional to determine a suitable schedule for you and your home.
While not every infestation is preventable, there are some actions you can take to minimize the risk of running into these pests in your home. These actions include:
Keeping your home tidy. This includes vacuuming regularly, sanitizing your kitchen, storing food in airtight containers, disposing garbage regularly, and keeping your home clutter-free.
Deep clean at least twice a year. Deep cleaning neglected crevices and corners of your home can help prevent breeding grounds from forming.
Repairing your home when needed. If your home has cracks or holes, you have an open invitation for pests to come in. Remove any standing water and seal any gaps in your floors, walls, and foundation.
Cleaning up your yard. Keep shrubbery and branches well-trimmed and away from your home. Remove fallen leaves and other debris.
Be smart with storage. If you use firewood, store it away from the home (at least 20 feet away if possible) and off of the ground.
