"My next door neighbor's house was robbed last week, and I realized that I needed to do something to give me further peace of mind. Purchased new home security with ADT and opted to get the premium options with flood detection and carbon dioxide monitoring. Keep up the nice job ADT!"

"Handy Carpentry was referred to me by Angie’s list. I contacted the company and arranged for Nixon to come to review the work needed. Heavy wooden double folding closet doors had come off the track because hardware had broken through the wood. He said he could fix the problem. Nixon came back on schedule and the work was completed using the existing hardware. The doors were set back into the track. I was very pleased to have them working just as they did before the problem occurred. I would use Economy Handy Carpentry again and am glad to give them a “job well done” recommendation. M.P. "Delivery was delayed due to credit inquiry. After the concern was raised, shipment was rushed to us. Self installation didn't go as easy. Issue was resolved over the phone. The glass break sensor was a bit sensitive to loud noise such as cabinet door closing and door sensor repeatedly falls off and had to be reattached. Notification of alarm activation was fast and made to the right contact numbers. This prevented false alarm calls to the police."

"The job went very smoothly. The tech ran a bit late, but he called to say so. He installed a keypad by the front door and assessed the house for security. He suggested, since there are several casement windows in the living room and adjoining dining room that a breaking glass sensor would work better and be more cost-effective than alarming all the windows. He did alarm a door that the previous company (inherited when we bought the house twenty-three years ago) had not considered significant. I feel safer with the current sensor choices than the ones I had before.
He took the time to make sure I knew how to use the system, so I am very pleased with the service. My one caveat: I was told that the motion sensor would not register my smaller pets (two cats) because they weigh under forty pounds. They must have set off the sensor, though, because the police responded. The system certainly alerts the authorities, but that motion sensor is very sensitive!

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

Whether a security system or security cameras is a better choice for you depends on your needs and preferred comfort level. A security system can cost more depending on the features you choose, but it’s a more proactive and protective approach to home security by alerting you and authorities of any emergencies. Using a security camera system is a more reactive approach because while you can monitor the camera footage, it does not alert the proper authorities for you.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Insurance companies weigh the amount of potential liabilities on your property to increase (or decrease) the cost of your home insurance. They will use several factors to decide if there are more chances for peril or injury to take place at your home. These factors include your location (whether you live in an area with high risk for natural disasters), the age and condition of your home, and whether you have any “attractive nuisances”—features that both increase the aesthetic of your home and potential for injury—like a pool or treehouse.

Yes, there are, and they often come with a screw set to ensure they stay secure. They run on batteries, depend on WiFi, and often require a WiFi extender. These typically cost less than $50. Doorbell cameras like these are great for renters who can't install a wired solution. However, a wired doorbell camera is a better choice for homeowners looking to invest wisely in home security.

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).
